Khwaja Nizamuddin (رحمتہ اللہ علیہ)


Khwaja Nizamuddin (1238 –1325 CE) was born in Badayun, Utter Pradesh, India. His father died when he was 5 years old. Therefore, his mother brought him to Delhi, and he spent his childhood in Delhi. When he was 20 years old, he travelled to Ajodhan, presently Pak Pattan, Pakistan, and took baya on the hand of Khwaja Fareeduddin Gajeshakar (رحمتہ اللہ علیہ). Khwaja Nizamuddin (رحمتہ اللہ علیہ) used to visit his Shaikh every year during Ramadhan. It is reported that during his third visit, Shaikh Farid (رحمتہ اللہ علیہ) made him his Khalifa and successor. Shaikh Nizamuddin (رحمتہ اللہ علیہ) lived in Delhi all his life and built Chishtee monastery (خانقاه) in Ghiyaspur, on the outskirts of Delhi. He died in 1325 CE and was buried in the compound of his monastery (خانقاه). Among his famous Khulafa were Shaikh Nasiruddin (رحمتہ اللہ علیہ) and Amir Khusro (رحمتہ اللہ علیہ).
