Juz 8 -

The Cattle

Al-An'aam | Sura # 6 | 165 verses | Makkan

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

6:111 Even if We send down the angels to them, and the dead speak to them, and We gather all things before their eyes, they will not believe, unless Allah wills, for most of them are ignorant.

The above verse signifies that Hidaya is Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) hands. Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) knows about His creatures before their coming into external existence. He knew cow as cow, elephant as elephant and He also knows who will accept Hidaya and who will not.

The meaning of "unless Allah wills" (إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ) are, Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) 'willingness' is as per the nature of the person. Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) will not force a good nature man to steal. If the person is good, he will accept the Hidaya, if not he will reject it. Evidences and Proves to an ill natured person in this context does not make any difference.

6:112 That is how We have made for each Apostle opponents, the devils among men and jinns, who inspire one another with deceitful talk. But if your Lord had willed they would not have done so.   Pay no attention to them and to what they fabricate.

Every one who is born in this world is destined to do a certain work. It is important to know the complexity of this world. The bigger the person in virtue, the bigger will be his troubles and bigger will be his enemies in both human and jinns. The conflict of evil and virtue in this world makes it a testing place. The winners are awarded with paradise, and the losers get the retribution of their evil deeds in the form of burning Hell Fire.

6:113 And so the hearts of those who disbelieve in the Hereafter will incline toward it (devils) and that they will be satisfied with it and earn the sins which they are to earn.

The evil person will surely be inclined to do evil deeds. He will surely feel happy to be in association with devils and will feel satisfied in their company.

6:114 (Tell them O' Prophet  ﷺ) Shall I seek a judge other than Allah, whereas it is He Who has sent down the detailed Book towards you?' And those whom We gave the Book know that this is the truth sent down from your Lord.  So (O' Prophet ﷺ  tell your followers) not to be among the people who doubt.

6:115 And the Word of your Lord is complete in truth and justice; there is none to change His Words; He is  All Hearing, All Knowing.

6:116 (O' believers, be careful) If you follow the majority of people on the earth, they will lead you astray from the path of Allah, for they follow only conjecture and surmise.

6:117 Your Lord knows well who has strayed from His way; and He also knows the people who are on guidance.

6:118 Eat only that on which the name of Allah has been pronounced, if you truly believe in His commands.

It is important to say Bismillahi Allahu Akbar (بسمِ اللهِ اللهُ اكبر) while slaughtering the animals. It is also important to do Fateha and Isaal-e-Thawaab and feed people more frequently.

6:119 And why should you not eat on which the name of Allah has been pronounced, when He has made it distinctly clear what is forbidden, unless you are constrained to do so.  Surely many (men) mislead others into following their vain desires for lack of knowledge. Your Lord certainly knows the transgressors.

The deviant sects like Salafis, Deobandis and their like minded stop Muslims from Fateha and Isaal-e-Tawaab. Indeed they are transgressors who mislead Muslims from the path of Sharia by misinterpreting certain Quranic verses which were meant for unbelievers. They impose these verses on Muslim dignitaries and lead themselves and others astray.

6:120 Give up both the visible and invisible sin. For those who sin, they will be punished for what they have done.

6:121 And do not eat that on which Allah’s name has not been pronounced, and indeed that is disobedience; and undoubtedly the devils inspire in the hearts of their friends to fight with you; and if you obey them, you are then polytheists.

6:122 Can he, who was lifeless, to whom We gave life, and gave him a light in whose glow he walks among men, be like him who is used to darkness from which he can never emerge?  Thus it has been made pleasing to the disbelievers that which they were doing.

The light of Iman and darkness of ignorance and deviance cannot be equated. The people of Sahih Iman will be inclined to walk on the straight path of Islam. The disbelievers and deviants among Muslims who follow different sects will be pleased to walk in darkness and would not like to come out of it in spite of scores of evidences you provide to lead them to the light of Iman.

6:123 And thus, We have made in every town leaders among its criminals that they may conspire in it; and they do not conspire except against themselves and they perceive it not.

6:124 And when a sign comes to them, they say, 'Never will we believe until we are given like that which was given to the Apostle of Allah Allah knows who is capable of Apostleship. Soon the guilty will be afflicted with disgrace by Allah and severe punishment for what they used to conspire.

6:125 And whomever Allah wills to guide, He opens his chest (heart) for Islam; and whomever He wills to send astray, He makes his chest narrow and firmly bound as if he were being forced by someone to climb the skies; this is how Allah gives the punishment to those who do not believe.

6:126 This is the straight path of your Lord. We made Our signs distinct for those who reflect.

6:127 For them is an abode of peace with their Lord. He will be their defender as reward for what they did.

6:128 And the Day when He will raise (resurrect) them all and will proclaim, 'O you group of jinns, you have enticed a lot of men'; and their human friends will submit, 'Our Lord, some of us have benefited from one another and have reached the appointed term which You had set for us'; Allah will say, 'Your home is Hell, remain in it for ever, except whoever Allah wills'; Indeed, your Lord is All Wise, Knowledgeable.

6:129 And similarly We make allies some of the oppressors with others, as a recompense of their deeds.

The people who have evil nature would be more than willing to follow and be in the company of oppressors in the society. Together they create disorder on earth.

6:130 O you assembly of jinns and men, did not apostles come to you from among you, communicating My signs to you, bringing warnings of this day (of Doom)?' They will answer : 'We bear witness to our sins.' They were surely deluded by the life of the world, and bore witness against themselves because they were unbelievers.

It is important to note that all Apostles and Prophets were from human beings. Every Apostle taught Islam to Jinns as he taught to his community/nation of his time. Since Jinns' life spans are much longer than humans, they had the opportunity to see many prophets during their lifetime and benefit from their teachings. The Jinns who visited the prophets, in turn, spread the teachings of Islam into their respective tribes.

It is in Quran - قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ اسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِّنَ الْجِنِّ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْآنًا عَجَبًا - يَهْدِي إِلَى الرُّشْدِ فَآمَنَّا بِهِ ۖ وَلَن نُّشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَا أَحَدًا [ Say (O’ Prophet ﷺ), It has been revealed to me that a group of Jinn listened and said; ‘Indeed we have heard the amazing Quran. It guides unto righteousness so we have believed in it, and we will never make partners with our lord’.] (Al-Jinn -1-2)

6:131 The reason for sending Apostles (one after the other) is that your Lord does not destroy towns and cities while the people in there are unaware.

6:132 And for everyone are ranks as per their deeds; and your Lord is not unaware of what they do.

6:133 Your Lord is independent (of any need) and is Most Merciful; (O' people)  If He wills, He can remove you and bring others in your place the way He created you from the descendants of others.

6:134 Indeed the thing which you are promised (the day of Qiyamah) will definitely come, and it is not in your power to escape.

6:135 Say : O' my people, do what you want to do, I am taking care of my assigned tasks. You will come to know, to whom the abode of happiness belongs.   Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed.

6:136 And the polytheists assign to Allah from that which He created of crops and livestock a share,  and say 'this is for Allah' in their opinion, 'and this is for our partners (associated with Him).' But what is for their 'partners' does not reach Allah, while what is for Allah  reaches their 'partners.'  How evil is the judgement they make?

The above verse is related to the strange customs and beliefs of Makkan pagans. Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is saying that all these are falsehood created by their minds.

6:137 And similarly, their partners (the devils) have made the killing of their children seem righteous in the sight of many of the polytheists, in order to ruin them and make their religion blurred to them; and if Allah willed they would not do so.  (O' Propher  ﷺ) Leave them to their falsehood.

6:138 And they said, 'These cattle and crops are forbidden; only those whom we wish can eat them in their opinion' and some cattle are those which they have forbidden riding upon, and some cattle over which they do not mention the name of Allah while slaughtering.  All these are fabricated lies against Allah.  He will punish them for what they fabricate.

6:139 And they say: 'Whatever is in the wombs of these cattle is only meant for men and forbidden for their women; but in case of an still-born,  both could eat it.' (And they claim it is from God).  Allah will punish them for what they assert.  He is All Wise and All Knowing.

The practices of Makkan pagans, mentioned in the above verse, are described below.

Bahira (بَحِيرَةٍ) - Bahira was the title of the camel. When the she-camel gave birth to her 5th calf, they used to see if it was male or a female. If it was male, they used to slaughter it and all men and women used to eat its meat. If the fifth calf was a female, they used to split its ear and used to call it Bahira. It was meant only for males who used to drink its milk. When she dies, all men and women used to eat its meat.

Saibah (سَائِبَةٍ) - A person, whatever he wanted from his possession, used to dedicate it the name of an Idol deity and used to take to the caretakers of the Idols. These caretakers used to give it to the travelers/visitors. If it was an animal, only male travelers were allowed to eat its meat after slaughter. If the animal died of its natural death, its meat used to be eaten by both men and women travelers.

Wasilah (وَصِيلَةٍ) - When the goat gave birth to the 7th kid, and if it was a male, they used to slaughter it and all men and women used to eat its meat. If it was a female, they will let it live but women were not allowed to drink its milk. When this goat dies its natural death, both men and women used to eat its meat. If the goat gave birth to both male and female, the 7th time, they used to keep both these goats alive and used to say that they have united both brother and sister. However, only men were allowed to benefit from them. Once they died, both men and women used to eat their meat.

Haam ( حَامٍ) - When the male camel used to mate with its grand daughter (female camel), they used to say that the back of this camel is safe. They used to leave it to feed freely. It was not used for riding or for transporting goods. They used to make sure that other camels do not bother him. When this old camel dies, both men and women used to eat its meat.

Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) says that He did not command Makkan Pagans for those practices.

6:140 They will surely perish who kill their offspring in senseless ignorance, and forbid the food that Allah has given them, by fabricating lies against Allah. They are not rightly guided and will never come to guidance.

Some tribes (like Rabia, Nasr, etc.) in pre-Islamic Arabia used to bury their daughters alive in the graves. Also there were strange customs in which they used to forbid certain food to certain people. All these falsehood they used to do in the name of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ).

6:141 It is He Who grew the gardens spread on the ground and above, and the date-palm, and crops of various kinds, and the olive and the pomegranate, similar in some respects and unlike in others; eat from its fruit when it bears yield, and pay the due (obligatory charity) from it on the day it is harvested; and do not act extravagantly; surely He does not like the extravagant.

6:142 (O' People) He has created beasts of burden and cattle for slaughter.  So eat of what Allah has given you for food, and do not walk on the footsteps of Satan who is surely your declared enemy.

6:143 There are eight pairs, two of the species of sheep and two of goats. Ask them which has He forbidden, the two males or the two females, or what the females carry in their wombs? Inform me about it with supportive knowledge, if you are truthful.

6:144 And there are two of camels and two of oxen. Ask them, which has He forbidden, the two males or the two females, or what the females carry in their wombs? Were you present at the time when Allah commanded it?" Who then could be more wicked than he who fabricates a lie and ascribes it to Allah to mislead men, without any knowledge? Allah does not guide the unjust.

6:145 Tell them (O' Prophet ﷺ), in all the commands revealed to me I find nothing which men have been forbidden to eat except carrion and running blood and flesh of the swine for it is unclean, or meat consecrated in the name of some,  other than Allah, which is profane. But if one is constrained to eat of these without craving or reverting to it, then surely your Lord is All Forgiving, Most Merciful.

6:146 And We forbade for the Jews all animals with claws; and the fat of oxen and sheep except which is on their backs or joined to their intestines or to the bone. This was the punishment for their insubordination; and what We say is true.

6:147 Then if they deny you (O' Prophet ﷺ) say, 'your Lord has boundless Mercy; but His wrath is never withdrawn from the culprits.'

6:148 The idolaters say, 'If Allah had so willed we would not have associated (others with Him), nor would have our fathers, nor would we have forbidden any thing.' So had others denied before them, and had to taste Our punishment in the end. Ask them, have you any knowledge? Then display it. You follow nothing but conjecture, and are nothing but liars.

6:149 Say, 'then Allah’s argument is sound and conclusive.  Had He willed, He would have guided you all.'

6:150 Tell them : 'Bring your witnesses to testify that Allah has forbidden this (and this). Then even if they (falsely) testify, (O' believers) you should not testify with them; and do not follow the wishes of those who deny Our signs and believe not in the Hereafter, and make others the equal of their Lord.

6:151 Tell them, 'Come, I will read out what your Lord has made binding upon you; that you make none equal of Allah, and be good to your parents, and do not kill your children out of poverty, for We give you food and We shall provide for them; and avoid what is shameful, whether open or hidden, and do not take a life which Allah has forbidden, unless for some just cause. These things Allah has enjoined upon you, so that you know right from the wrong (and follow His guidance).

6:152 Don't go near the inheritance (property)  of the orphans (left by their parents) but only for their betterment, until they come of age; and give in full measure, and weigh justly on the balance.  Allah does not burden anyone beyond his capacity. When you say a thing, let it be just, even though the matter is related to your relative, and fulfill the promise made to Allah. These are the things that He has enjoined that you may take heed.

6:153 And that, this is My Straight Path, so follow it; and do not follow other ways for they will sever you from His way; this is commanded to you, so that you may attain piety.'

6:154 To that end We gave the Book to Musa (عليه السلام), a perfect law, distinctly explaining all things, and a guidance and grace, so that they should believe in the meeting with their Lord.

6:155 And this (Quran) is the blessed Book which We have sent down; so follow it and be pious, so there may be mercy upon you.

6:156 They (disbelievers) may say, 'The Book was sent down only to two groups (Jews and Christians) before us; and we were not aware of their teachings.'

6:157 Or (the disbelievers) may say that, 'If the Book had been sent down to us, we would have been more upon guidance than them'.  Now the clear proof and guidance and mercy has come to you from your Lord; then who is more unjust than the one who denies the signs of Allah, and turns away from them? We shall punish those severely who turn away as a retribution for their turning away.

6:158 What are the people  waiting for? For the angels to come down, or your Lord to appear, or some signs from your Lord? The day when certain signs appear from your Lord, the embracing of faith shall not be of any avail to one who did not come to belief at first, or who did not perform good deeds by virtue of his faith. Tell them: Wait on, we are also waiting (for the good and evil to become distinct).

6:159 Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects, you, (O' Prophet ﷺ), are not (associated) with them in anything. Their affair is only (left) to Allah; then He will inform them about what they used to do.

Currently Muslims are divided into hundreds of groups and as per the above verse all have deviated from the straight path of Islam. If you do not have the right knowledge and are not on Sahih Iman, you have lost both the worlds. Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) has nothing to do with them.

Who are the people on the straight path of Islam? Quran declares that Awliya Allah (the friends and favorites of Allah - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) are on the straight path of Islam.

It is in Quran - أَلَا إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاءَ اللَّهِ لَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ - الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَكَانُوا يَتَّقُونَ - لَهُمُ الْبُشْرَىٰ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ ۚ لَا تَبْدِيلَ لِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ ۚ ذَ‌ٰلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ [ Behold the friends of Allah, On them shall come no fear, nor shall they grieve. These are they, who have believed in Allah and are mindful of (close to) Him and (have consequently abstained from everything evil). To them tidings come of a happy life both in this world and in Hereafter. The word of Allah is never revoked. This in itself is a great felicity. (Younus - 62-64).

It is in Hadith - Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) will never let my Ummah agree upon misguidance and the hand of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is over the group (Awliya Allah), so follow Sawad al-Azam' (سواد الاعظم) (the Pious or Great Group of Believers - Awliya Allah / Sufi Shuyookh) and whoever dissents from them departs to Hell". (Tirmidhi 4/2167; Hakim 1/116 - Dhahabi agreed with him)

Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) also praises them in many Ahadith. The entire Muslim Ummah unitedly accept Sufi Shuyookh as Awliya Allah.

However, the problem is with certain 'look alike Sufi Babas and so called Murshids who are the subject of criticism. We also condemn all those who mislead people in the name of religion and take advantage of innocent people.

As per Hadith (Tirmizi) of 73 Sects, Awliya Allah are the people who will In Sha Allah get salvation and rewards on the Day of Judgment. The rest of the Muslims In Sha Allah, will also get salvation provided they learn Sahih Iman in the Company of these pious Shuyookh and walk on the right path of Islam.

What is the right path of Islam?

It is in Quran - اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ - صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ [ (O'our Lord) Lead us to the straight path. The path of those on whom you have awarded your bestowal; and not the path of those who have been subjected to Your Wrath and the path of those who have gone astray.] ("Fatiha - 6-7)

[And whosoever obeys Allah and the Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), then they will be in the company of those on whom Allah has bestowed His Grace; like Prophets, the Siddiqun, the martyrs, and the righteous. And how excellent these companions are.’ (An-Nisa – 69).

It is in Hadith - Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) drew a line with his hand and said, 'This is the straight path of Allah'. He then drew lines to its right and to its left and said : 'These are the other paths, which represent misguidance and at the head of each path sits a devil inviting people to it.' He then recited this verse - وَأَنَّ هَـٰذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيمًا فَاتَّبِعُوهُ ۖ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا السُّبُلَ فَتَفَرَّقَ بِكُمْ عَن سَبِيلِهِ ۚ ذَ‌ٰلِكُمْ وَصَّاكُم بِهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ (Al-An'Aam - 153) [And verily, this is My straight path, so follow it, and follow not other paths, for they will separate you away from His path.] (Musnad Ahmad, narrated by Abdullah Ibn Masud).

It is in Hadith - Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said that out of 73 sects of Muslims, only one will be on the right path and the rest will be thrown into Hell Fire on the Day of Judgment (Tirmidhi).

The above Quranic verses and Ahadith clearly show that the path of Awliya Allah / Sufi Shuyookh is the only right path of Islam. All other paths lead people to Hell Fire. There cannot be a different opinion on this.

6:160 He who does a good deed will receive ten times its worth; and he who does evil will get penalized to an equal degree; and no one will be wronged.

6:161 Say, 'Indeed, my Lord has guided me to a straight path,  a correct religion, the way of Ibrahim (عليه السلام), inclining toward truth. And he was not among those who associated partners with Allah.'

6:162 Say (O' Prophet ﷺ) Undoubtedly my prayers and my sacrifices, and my living and my dying are all for Allah, the Lord Of the Worlds'

6:163 He has no partner; this is what I have been commanded, and I am the first (among) Muslims.

6:164 Say, 'Shall I seek a Lord other than Allah, whereas He is Lord of all things?' And whatever a person earns is itself responsible for it; and no man shall bear another´s burden. You have to go back to your Lord in the end when He will tell you about the things you disputed.

6:165 It is He who made you trustees on the earth, and exalted some in rank over others in order to try you by what He has given you. Indeed your Lord´s retribution is swift, yet He is forgiving and kind.

The Heights

Al-A'raaf | Sura # 7 | 206 verses | Makkan

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

المص١

7:1 Alif Laam Meem Saad

'Alif-Laam-Meem-Saad' is known as ‘Solemn Verse' (Ayat-e-Muqatta'at - آیتِ مقطعات).

Fourteen Arabic alphabets have been used, in varied combinations, in 14 ‘Solemn Verses' (Ayaat-e-Muqatta'at - آیاتِ مقطعات) in the form of initials of 29 Chapters (سورة) of holy Quran. Alif-Laam-Meem-Saad (المص) is one of them.

Since Quran is 'Mubeen' (الْمُبِينِ); its description is clear and manifest. The meanings of all the verses of Quran, including 'Solemn Verses' (آیاتِ مقطعات) are surely known to its principle addressee, ie., Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). It is also likely that Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) has informed the meanings of these Verses to some of his Sahabah and Awliya Allah.

We believe in whatever is meant by the 'Solemn Verses' (آیاتِ مقطعات) by Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم).

Since we have been commanded to read the Quran carefully and try to understand the significance of every verse of the Quran, we do ponder over these verses. And when we think, by focusing our attention towards Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) for guidance, it comes to our mind that the 'Solemn Verses' (آیاتِ مقطعات) are actually the 'Solemn Titles of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) given by Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) throughout the Quran. Our understanding is based on the fact that Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) has addressed Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) in the Quran by specific names, like Muzzammil (مزمل - O' beloved who covers self in a coverlet), Muddassir (مدثر - O' beloved, who covers self in a bed sheet). With this understanding, it is most likely that Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) other names / titles have been mentioned in Quran by denoting certain initials/alphabets.

7:2 This Book has been sent down to you (O Prophet ﷺ).   (But in view of disbelievers' denial and plotting)  do not get upset about warning them through it. Also (keep on) reminding the believers.

7:3 O' mankind, follow what has been sent down to you from your Lord,  and do not follow any other beside Him. Yet little do you care to remember.

7:4 And how many towns were destroyed when Our punishment came to them at night or while they were sleeping at noon.

7:5 And when Our punishment overtook them they had nothing to say except crying out  'Indeed we have been unjust'.

7:6 (On the Day of Reckoning) We shall question the people to whom the rightful knowledge was conveyed and We will question the Apostles (who taught them the rightful knowledge.)

7:7 We shall recount (their deeds) to them as we are aware (of them).  (They should know that), We have never been away from them (and have witnessed all what they did. )

7:8 And on that Day, the weighing will indeed be done; so those whose scales prove heavy  are the successful.

7:9 And those whose (good deeds) are lighter in the scale shall perish for violating Our signs.

7:10 And We established you in the earth and in it, created for you the means of livelihood; (but) very few are grateful.

7:11 Indeed, We have  created you, (O' Mankind), and given you a (Human) form. Then We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam (عليه السلام)'; so they prostrated, except Satan. He was not of those who prostrated.

7:12 Allah asked (Satan), 'What prevented you, that you did not prostrate when I commanded you? Answered Satan, 'I am better than him; You created me from fire whereas he is created from clay.

7:13 Allah commanded, 'then go down from here. It does not befit you to stay here and be proud.  Exit, you are from the damned.

7:14 He (Satan) said, 'Give me respite till the day (of Resurrection) when people will be resurrected.'

7:15 Allah said, 'You are given respite.'

7:16 Satan said,  'Since You led me into error, I will surely lie in wait for them on Your Straight Path (to lure them away from it).

7:17 Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful (to You).'

It is interesting to note that Satan forgot to say that he will come from above. When Satan tries to lure people from the four directions, those who are on Sahih Iman pray Allah to save them from his insinuations by their folded hands. Then comes Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) Mercy from above and he is saved from Satan's evil designs.

7:18 Allah commanded, 'Exit from here, (you) rejected outcast; indeed whoever among them follows you, I will fill Hell with you all.'

7:19 And (Allah commanded) 'O Adam (عليه السلام), dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat from wherever you want but do not approach this tree, lest you will be among the wrongdoers.'

7:20 Then Satan created apprehensions in their hearts in order to disclose to them matters of their shame which were hidden from them, and said, 'Your Lord has forbidden you from this tree, for you may become angels or immortals.'

7:21 And he swore to them, 'Indeed I am a well-wisher for both of you.'

7:22 So he brought them down with deception; and when they tasted from that tree, their shame became manifest to them and they began covering themselves from the leaves of Paradise; and their Lord said to them, 'Did I not forbid you from that tree, and tell you that Satan is an open enemy to you?

7:23 They both submitted, 'Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves; so if You do not forgive us and have Mercy on us, surely, we will be among the losers.'

7:24 Allah said, `Go down. Some of you are  enemies of others, and there will be for you on the earth a habitation and provision for (an appointed) time.

7:25 Allah said, 'Therein you will live, and therein you will die, and from it you will be raised (on the day of Resurrection).

7:26 O' children of Adam (عليه السلام), We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness is the best. That is from the signs of Allah that perhaps they will remember.

The clothing of righteousness is of two types, (i) physical - it is strictly as per the Sharia. We should make sure that we should hide our body parts as per the commandments of Sharia and look a truthful follower of Islam. (ii) Spiritual - The best clothing is to remove the lustful inclinations of our Nafs and cloth it with the Zikr of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and transform it into piety.

7:27 O' children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts.  Indeed, he and his tribe see you from where you do not see them.  Indeed, We have made the devils,  allies to those who do not believe.

7:28 And when they commit an immorality, they say, 'We found our fathers doing it, and Allah has ordered us to do it.' Say, 'Indeed, Allah does not order immorality. Do you say about Allah that which you do not know?'

7:29 Say, (O' Prophetﷺ ), 'My Lord has ordered justice and that you set your heart (focused on Him) at every occasion of prayer in mosques and invoke Him, (and be) sincere to Him in religion and become the same as you were before.  The way He brought you into being, in the same manner will you return.

7:30 He guides some and leaves some into error because they take the devils as allies instead of Allah while they think that they are guided.

7:31 O' Children of Adam (عليه السلام), Adorn yourself when you go to the mosque, and eat and drink, and do not cross limits. Indeed, He does not like the transgressors.

7:32 Say, Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has brought forth for His servants and the good food? Say, 'That is for the believers in this world, and on the Day of Resurrection it will be for them only'; this is how We explain Our verses in detail for people of knowledge.

There is no monastic life in Islam. Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) allows us to eat and drink from the good food he has provided. Eating should be to support our body, and not to satisfy the lustful inclinations of our Nufoos. Also, wastage of food is not allowed. We need to use good clothing to cover our bodies. Also, we are allowed to adorn ourselves when we go to mosques for congregation prayers, particularly on Fridays.

7:33 Tell them,  'My Lord has forbidden repugnant acts, whether open or disguised, sin and unjust oppression, associating others with Allah, of which He has sent down no authority, and saying things about Allah of which you have no knowledge.'

7:34 A term is fixed for every nation; and when their appointed time comes there will neither be a moment´s delay nor haste.

7:35 O children of Adam, when Apostles come to you from among you who convey My messages, then those who take heed and amend will have neither fear nor grief,

7:36 but the ones who deny Our verses and are arrogant are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.

7:37 So who is more unjust than the one who fabricated a lie against Allah or denied His signs? They will get what they are destined, until when Our angels come to remove their souls and tell them, where are they whom you used to worship besides Allah?' They will say, 'We have lost them' and they will testify against themselves that they were disbelievers.

7:38 'Enter then the Fire,' Allah will say to the generations of jinns and men. On entering, each batch will condemn the other.  When all of them have entered one after the other, the last group to come will say of those who had come before them : 'O our Lord, they are the ones who led us astray; so give them double torment in the Fire.' He will answer, 'for all,  it will be double; but this you do not know.'

7:39 Then the former will say to the latter,  'You have no privilege over us. So taste the punishment for what you had done.'

7:40 Verily for those who deny Our signs and turn away in haughtiness from them, the gates of heaven shall not be opened, nor will they enter Paradise, not till the camel passes through the tailor's needle´s eye. That is how the criminals get their retribution.

'The Camel to pass through the tailor's needle's eye (يَلِجَ الْجَمَلُ فِي سَمِّ الْخِيَاطِ) is a phrase in Arabic to mean that the thing is impossible.

7:41 Their beds and their coverings, both are fire.  This is the retribution of the unjust.

7:42 And those who accepted faith and performed good deeds as per their capacity, We do not burden any one except within its capacity, are the people of Paradise; they shall abide therein forever.

7:43 Whatever the bitterness they may have in their hearts We shall  remove. Streams of running water shall ripple at their feet, and they will say : 'We are grateful to Allah for guiding us here. Never would we have been guided if Allah had not shown us the way. The Apostles of our Lord had indeed brought the truth.' It will be proclaimed to them, 'You have received this Paradise as an inheritance for what you used to do.'

7:44 And the inmates of Paradise will call to the residents of Hell : 'We have found that the promise made to us by our Lord was true. Have you also found the promise of your Lord to be true?' They will answer : 'Yes (we found it to be true).' Then an announcer between them will call  'The curse of Allah be on the unjust,

7:45 who prevent from the path of Allah and wish to distort it; and who disbelieve in the life to come (in Hereafter).'

7:46 'Between Paradise and Hell is a veil; and on the Heights will be some men who will recognize them all by their foreheads; and they call to the people of Paradise, 'Peace be on you'; they (the people of Heights - لْأَعْرَافِ رِجَالٌ) have not entered Paradise and they yearn for it.

7:47 And when their eyes turn towards the people of Hell, they will say, 'Our Lord, Do not put us along with the unjust.'

7:48 Recognizing them by their marks, the people of al-Araaf will call (to the inmates of Hell) : 'Of what use was your amassing (of wealth) of which you were proud?'

7:49 (Then pointing to the inmates of Paradise, they will say to the inmates of Hell) : 'Are they not those of whom you had sworn and said, Allah will not have mercy on them? (And yet they have been told by their Lord,) ´Enter Paradise where you will have no fear or grief.'

7:50 And the people of Hell will cry out to the people of Paradise, 'Provide us some benefit from your water or from the food Allah has provided you'; they will say, 'Indeed Allah has forbidden both to the disbelievers.'

7:51 People who made their religion a sport and pastime, and whom the worldly life deceived; so this day We will disregard them, As they had forgotten the meeting of this Day and the way they used to deny Our signs.

7:52 And indeed We brought to them a Book, in which We have provided knowledgeable details. (It is) a Guidance and a Mercy for people who believe.

7:53 What do they await, except for the result foretold by that Book to appear?  The day that (reality) is unraveled, the people who had lost sight of it will say : 'The Apostles of our Lord had indeed brought the truth. Do we have any one to intercede for us? If only we could go back to the world, we would act otherwise.' Indeed they have caused themselves harm, and the lies they concocted did not help.

7:54 Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself (His authority) above the Throne. He covers the night with the day, (and the night) chasing it rapidly; and (He created) the sun, the moon, and the stars (which are) subjected by His command. Pay heed, His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds.

7:55 Call upon your Lord in humility and secretly (when you are alone) ; indeed, He does not like transgressors.

7:56 And cause not corruption upon the earth after its reformation. And invoke Him with fear and hope. Indeed, the mercy of Allah is close for the pious people.

7:57 And it is He Who sends the winds giving glad tidings, ahead of His Mercy; until when they come bearing heavy clouds, We drove it towards the place devoid of vegetation, and then rained water upon it, then produced fruits of various kinds from it.  This is how We will bring forth the dead, so that you may heed advice.

7:58 And from the good land comes forth its vegetation by the command of Allah; and from the infertile land, nothing comes forth except a little with difficulty; this is how We explain Our signs in different ways, for people who are grateful.

7:59 We sent Nooh (عليه السلام) to his nation, and he said : 'O people worship Allah; you have no other god but He; for I fear the retribution of the great Day may fall upon you.'

7:60 The leaders (chieftains / the idol worshipers clergy) of his people said, 'Indeed we see you in open error.'

7:61 (Nooh  عليه السلام) said, 'O people, I am not in error. I am an Apostle from the Lord of the worlds,

7:62 conveying to you the message of my Lord and wishing good for you, and I know from Allah what you do not know.'

7:63 And are you surprised that an advice came to you from your Lord through a man among you, so that he may warn you and that you may fear, and so that there be Mercy upon you?

BRIEF HISTORY

It is in Ahadith (Al-Hakim, Ibn Kathir, al-Hythami, at-Tabaraani, Ibn Hajr, etc.) that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, the period between Adam and Nooh (عليهم السلام) is 10 Quroon ( قُرُون‎ - plural of Qarn).

There are differences of opinions among scholars about the period of a Qarn (قَرْن). Some say that it is 100 years while others say that it is 'a generation'. Those who say Qarn is a generation, they mean that the period of a generation is equal to the life span of the people lived in that generation.

It is in Quran - ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَا مِن بَعْدِهِمْ قَرْنًا آخَرِينَ [ Then We produced after them a generation of others.] (Al-Mominoon - 31)

Since people used to live for over a thousand years during those generations, the period between Adam and Nooh (عليهم السلام) could sure be much longer than 10 centuries.

There is another opinion of scholars based on the following Hadith.

It is in Hadith - Ibn Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'The period between Adam and Nuh (عليهم السلام) was 10 Quroon, all of which followed Islam. (Bukhari).

As per above Hadith, the 10 Quroon are related to the generations of Tawheed or the generations of people who followed Islam (the religion of all prophets). This Hadith does not negate that there may have been some generations, in between, who did not follow Islam. With this understanding, the period between Adam and Nuh (ليهم السلام) could be still much longer.

After Prophet Adam (عليه السلام), many successive generations followed his teachings. However, the ills among the people gradually developed over a period of time. During the generation of Nooh (عليه السلام), these ills peaked. Thus Nooh (عليه السلام) was sent to guide and reform them.

It is believed that the people of Nooh (عليه السلام) inhabited the region presently known as Iraq, and around Mosul, Kurdistan, and areas bordering Armenia. The Quranic descriptions clarify that the people of Nooh (عليه السلام) were not ignorant. Their main problem was polytheism. They had associated certain idols with God. This evil practice gave rise to a lot of corruption among them. There was a religious clergy among them who represented false gods created by themselves. All economic, social and religious activity was run under them. They had a strong grip over their people. When corruption reached to a peak, Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) sent Nooh (عليه السلام) to set things right for them. However, all his efforts were repulsed by the clergy which kept people under their control. When nothing seemed to work, Nooh (عليه السلام) prayed Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) not to spare even a single unbeliever on the face of the earth.

It is in Quran - وَقَالَ نُوحٌ رَّبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ دَيَّارًا [ And Nooh (عليه السلام) said, "My Lord, do not leave upon the earth any disbelieving inhabitant. ] (Nooh - 26)

The supplication was accepted and they were destroyed by a massive flood.

7:64 But they called him a liar, and We saved him and those with him in the Ark, and drowned the others who rejected Our signs, for they were blind people.

The above verse point out the consequences of rejection of Prophet Nooh's (عليه السلام) message by his people.

It is in Quran - وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ فَلَبِثَ فِيهِمْ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا خَمْسِينَ عَامًا فَأَخَذَهُمُ الطُّوفَانُ وَهُمْ ظَالِمُونَ [ And We certainly sent Nooh (عليه السلام) to his people, and he remained among them a thousand years minus fifty years, and the flood seized them while they were wrongdoers. ] (Al-Ankabut - 14)

Nooh (عليه السلام) strove patiently for such a long time in the face of testing circumstances at the end of which they were perished. The same thing happened to Pharaoh and his people who were drowned in the sea.

7:65 And We sent Hood (عليه السلام) to the people of Aa'd from their own community. He said, 'O my people! Worship Allah, you do not have any God except Him; so don't you fear?

7:66 The disbelieving Chieftains of his people said, 'Indeed we consider you foolish and think you are a liar.'

7:67 He said, O' my people, there is nothing wrong with me.  In fact I am an Apostle  from the Lord of the Worlds.

Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) narrates the stories of the Prophets briefly at different places in Quran. He mentions only those episodes that are relevant for the purpose of teaching. The people of Aa'd were ancient Arab people, well known for their glory, riches and later for their annihilation. They lived mainly in the Ahqaf region that lies between Hijaz, Yemen and Yamamah. It was from there they spread to other neighboring areas. Prophet Hood (عليه السلام) was sent to them for their reformation. However, they continued their rejection and ultimately were destroyed.

7:68 I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I am to you a trustworthy adviser.

7:69 Then do you wonder that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord through a man from among you, that he may warn you? And remember He made you successors after the people of Nooh (عليه السلام) and increased you in stature. So be grateful for the favors of Allah that you might succeed.

7:70 They answered : 'Have you come to say to us that we should worship only one God, abandoning those worshiped by our ancestors? If so, bring  us what you threaten us with, if what you say is true.'

7:71 He said, 'Indeed the punishment and the wrath of your Lord has (already) fallen upon you. Why you dispute with me regarding the names you and your ancestors have fabricated? Allah has not sent down any proof concerning them; therefore wait, I also await with you.'

7:72 Then We saved him and those on his side by Our grace, and destroyed to the very last of those who rejected Our signs and denied the truth.

There was total extermination of the people of Aa'd. Their destruction was total and their monuments were completely effaced. The Arab historians say that the only people belonging to Aa'd who survived were the followers of the Prophet Hood (عليه السلام). These survivors are known as the Second Aa'd (عاد الثانيه). The people who were annihilated are known as 'First Aa'd (عاد الأولي).

7:73 And We sent Saleh (عليه السلام) to the tribe of Thamud, from their own community.  He said, 'O my people! Worship Allah.  You do not have any God except Him;. Indeed a clear proof has come to you from your Lord.   This is Allah’s she-camel, a sign for you, so leave her free to feed in Allah’s earth, and do not touch her with evil intentions for a painful punishment will seize you.

7:74 'And remember when He made you successors of A'ad and gave you a region in the earth, so you now build palaces in the soft plains and carve houses in rocks.  Remember Allah’s favors and do not go about making mischief on the earth.

7:75 The chieftains among the people who were arrogant towards the weaker believers among them asked the believers : 'Do you really know that Saleh (عليه السلام) has been sent by his Lord?' They said : 'Indeed we believe in the message he has brought.'

7:76 Those who were arrogant answered : 'We do not believe in what you believe.'

7:77 Then they hamstrung the she-camel and rebelled against the command of their Lord, and said : 'Bring, O' Saleh (عليه السلام), on us the affliction you promise, if you are one of the Apostles.'

The Thamud lived in the north-western part of Arabian peninsula which is currently known as Mada'in Salih. It was the capital town of Thamud. At that time it was known as al-Hijr (the Rock-Hewn city or the city carved out of rocks). It has survived to this day. Al-Hijr was inhabited by over five hundred thousand people.

During Prophet Mohammad's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) time, Arab trade caravans used to pass through the ruins of Mada'in Salih. On his way to Tabuk, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) directed Muslims to hastily move ahead of this place, not to look at it or stay near it, as it was a reminder of Allah's wrath.

It is indeed strange to see that Wahhabis and Salafis have made Mada'in Salih a tourist center where people are encouraged to visit.. Magnificent hotels have been build around it for peoples' stay in that area.

It is in Quran - مَا أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا فَأْتِ بِآيَةٍ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ - قَالَ هَـٰذِهِ نَاقَةٌ لَّهَا شِرْبٌ وَلَكُمْ شِرْبُ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ - وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوءٍ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ [ (The people of Salih said) You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign (from God), if you should be of the truthful. Prophet Salih (عليه السلام) said, 'This is a she-camel. For her is a (time of) drink, and for you is a (time of) drink, (each) on a known day. And do not touch her with harm, lest you be seized by the punishment of a terrible day.] ( Ash-Shuara - 154-56)

From the above, it is clear that Thamud themselves had asked Prophet Salih (عليه السلام) to produce a sign that would support his claim of prophet-hood. Responding to it, Prophet Salih (عليه السلام) pointed to she Camel which appeared before them miraculously. The miraculous appearance of the she-camel reinforces the fact that Salih (عليه السلام) had presented it as a 'Divine sign' and warned his people of dire consequences if they harmed it. He explained to them that the she-camel would graze freely in their fields; that on alternate days she and other animals would drink water from their well, They were also warned that if they harmed the she-camel they would be punished by the Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ). The Thamud witnessed that the she-camel graze freely in their fields and she and the other camels drank water on alternate days from their well. The Thamud were initially cautious about the She-Camel, however they were not happy with the state of affairs. Later they killed it. After killing, they proudly called on Prophet Salih (عليه السلام) to bring the punishment for them. Then they were seized by an earthquake and they lay dead in their homes.

7:78 Then they were seized by an earthquake, and lay overturned on the ground in their homes in the morning.

7:79 Saleh (عليه السلام) turned away from them and said : 'O my people, I conveyed to you the message of my Lord and warned you; but you do not like those who wish you well.'

It is important to note that Prophet Saleh (عليه السلام) addressed his people who were struck by the Earthquake and were already dead. This proves that the dead can hear.

It is in Hadith - Abu Talha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) reported : "On the day of the Battle of Badr, Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) ordered that the bodies of twenty-four leaders of the Quraish be thrown into one of the foul, abandoned wells of Badr. On the third day after the battle, the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) called for his mount and saddled it. Then he set out, so his companions followed him. They said among themselves, "He must be going to something important."

When the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) arrived at the well, he stood at its edge and began addressing those therein by calling upon them by their names, "O so and so, Son of so and so; and You, so and so, Son of so and so! Would it not have been easier to have obeyed Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) ? We have found that which our Lord promised us to be true. Did you find what your Lord promised you to be true?

Thereupon Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, "O Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), what are you saying to these bodies without souls?! Do they hear? For Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) says, "Verily, you cannot make the dead hear. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) answered, 'By Him in whose hand lies the soul of Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), you did not hear better than them what I just said.' (Bukhari and Muslim).

7:80 And We sent Loot (عليه السلام), who said to his people : 'Why do you commit this lecherous act which none in the world has committed before?

The land inhabited by the people of Loot (عليه السلام) is currently known as 'Trans-Jordan that lies between Iraq and Palestine. It is believed that there were major cities in that area during Loot's (عليه السلام) time. After their destruction, there is no trance of these people or those cities.

7:81 In preference to women you satisfy your lust with men. Indeed you are a people who have transgressed.'

There are many evil deeds of the people of Loot (عليه السلام) mentioned in Quran at different places. In the above verse, their most heinous act is mentioned that resulted in Allah's wrath upon them.

Sodomy is prohibited in Islam. Because of this act the people of Loot (عليه السلام) earned notoriety and ultimate punishment.

Currently, gay marriages and same-sex-marriages have been allowed in many countries of the world in spite of the fact that anal intercourse is unnatural as its physical, psychological and moral effects are disastrous.

7:82 And his people had no answer except they said to each other, banish them (Loot ؑ  and his family)  out of your neighborhood; these are people who wish purity'.

7:83 But We saved him and his family, except for his wife who was one of those who stayed behind.

7:84 And We rained down on them a shower (of Stones). So witness the end of sinners.

Sodomy is one of the deadliest sins that incurs Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) wrath on those who indulged in it. It is prohibited in Islam and as a deterrent its perpetrators are awarded death penalty (Ibn Maja). It is also unlawful for the husband to perpetrate this act with his wife.

It is in Hadith - The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, 'cursed be on him who commits this act with a woman.' (Abu Dawood).

7:85 And We sent Shuaib (عليه السلام) to Madyan from their community. He said, 'O my people! Worship Allah, you do not have any God except Him; indeed a clear proof has come to you from your Lord, so measure and weigh in full and do not give the people their goods diminished, and do not spread turmoil on earth after it has been reformed; this is only for your good, if you believe.'

The Madyan region consisted of the territory north-west of Hijaz and south of Palestine on the coast of the Red Sea. Part of Madyan stretched to the northern border of the Sinai Peninsula. Madyani towns were located on the trade routes of Yanbu-Syria and Iraq-Egypt along the Red Sea. Long after the destruction of these towns, the Arabs trade caravans to Syria and Egypt passed through the ruins of these towns.

At the time of the advent of Shu'aib (عليه السلام), the people of Madyan suffered from two major evils, polytheism and dishonesty in business dealings. Shu'aib (عليه السلام) devoted his efforts to reform them in these aspects.

7:86 And do not be seated on every road in order to scare the travelers, and to prevent people from Allah’s path who believe in Him, wishing to distort it; and remember when you were few and He increased your numbers. Keep in mind what was the end of the mischief mongers (before you).

7:87 And if a group among you believes in what I have been sent with, and another group does not believe, then wait until Allah judges between us; and Allah’s judgement is the best of all.'
