Juz 7 -

The Food

Al-Ma'idah | Sura # 5 | 120 verses | Madinan

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

5:83 And when they listen to what has been revealed to the Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), you can see their eyes brim over with tears at the truth which they recognize, and say: "O Lord, we believe; include us among those who bear witness .

5:84 And why should we not believe in Allah and what has come to us of the truth? And we aspire that our Lord will admit us along with the righteous people.

5:85 So for their saying (believing),  Allah rewarded them with gardens (in Paradise) beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. And that is the reward of the doers of good.

5:86 And those who disbelieved and denied Our signs, are the people of Hell.

The above verses clarify that there were two types among the people who were invited by Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) to Islam. Some, whose hearts were opened by the grace of Allah, accepted the message forthwith. The verses of Quran and the explanation of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) touched their hearts and they recognized the truth instantly. People in the gathering could see the sea-change in them by looking at their body language when their eyes were filled with tears. They immediately accepted Islam and became part of the people who were to be rewarded in both the worlds. As against this group, there were others who remained adamant and did not accept Islam, rather tried to put hurdles on the way of Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and reserved their dwellings in Hell.

5:87 O' believers, do not forbid (yourselves from) the good things Allah has made lawful for you; and do not transgress. Allah does not love transgressors.

5:88 Eat what is lawful and good Allah has bestowed upon you, and fear Allah in whom you believe.

5:89 Allah does not hold you for meaningless oaths, He does take you to task for breaking the intended oaths; so the expiation of such oaths is to feed ten needy persons equal to the average of what you feed your family, or to clothe them, or to free one slave; and for one who has no means, is the fasting for three days; this is the expiation of your oaths when you have sworn; and fulfill your oaths; this is how Allah explains His verses to you, so that you may be thankful.

Broadly speaking, there are 4 types of oaths, as follows.

(i) Absurd Oath (یمین لغو)

It is a nonsensical and an unintended oath. Since Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) forgives most of the minor and even major sins, He does not hold people for verbal oath which is a nonsensical act of absurdity and foolishness. Saying 'By God' or 'I swear to God', on everything is an absurd oath.

(ii) Sinful Oath (یمین غموس )

This kind of oath is known as 'immersive oath' (يمين الغموس). This is a sinful false oath taken consciously and deliberately to conceal a truth. A false witness/testimony in a Court of law comes under this category. You lied to hurt a person. In this case you need to seek forgiveness of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and that person and compensate him for the loses he incurred as a result of your false testimony.

(iii) Intentional Oath (یمین منعقدہ)

The oath, taken with an intention and resolve, to do or not to do a thing, is known as an 'intentional oath'. If the work is bad and you have taken an oath of not doing it, you should hold on to your oath. If the work is virtuous and you have taken an oath of not doing it, then you should break it and continue doing the good work. However, for breaking an oath, you are liable for expiation (كفّاره). The expiation is, to feed an average amount of food to 10 poor people for one time or provide them with clothing which are suitable for them for Salah or free a slave and if you cannot afford these, then fast for 3 days.

It is in Quran - لَا يُؤَاخِذُكُمُ اللَّهُ بِاللَّغْوِ فِي أَيْمَانِكُمْ وَلَكِنْ يُؤَاخِذُكُمْ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ قُلُوبُكُمْ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ حَلِيمٌ [ Allah will not call you to account for what is vain in your oaths, but He will call you to account for what you mean in your hearts. Allah is most forgiving and forbearing. (Al-Baqara - 225)

(iv) Oath of Separation (ایلا)

The husband takes an oath to separate himself from his wife. The duration of this separation has been fixed by Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) to be 4 months. If he unites with his wife during this period, he has to offer an expiation and if this separation is extended beyond 4 months, it will become a 'cogent divorce' or 'effective divorce (طلاق بائن). In a cogent divorce, the husband does not have the right to call back his wife. However, if the woman is willing, she can marry him with a new dower (مہر). Payment of the first dower was already expedient upon the husband. Now, a fresh dower will also become payable. This is the result of getting overwhelmed with anger on petty issues and using the name of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) for vows.

5:90 O' believers indeed, intoxicants, gambling, (sacrificing on) stone alters (of idols), and the arrows you use for divination, are all acts of Satan.  Keep away from them so that you may be successful.

Intoxicants (khamr خَمْرُ) is that which overtakes the intellect. It includes all kinds of intoxicant, wine, drugs etc.

Gambling (مَيْسِر) includes all kinds of games of chance to win money.

Stone alter (اٌّنصَاب) was the place where Makkan Pagans used to offer sacrifices for their Idols.

Use of arrows to find fortune was known as Azlaam (اٌّزْلاَمُ). When Makkan Pagans were not sure about some work, they used to take three arrows. One was inscribed 'do it'; the other was inscribed 'don't do it', and the third was inscribed 'try again'. Whichever arrow hit the target, they used to act accordingly.

Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) says that all these things are filth (رِجْسٌ) and the deeds of Satan.

Prohibition of alcohol came in three stages. It is recorded by Ahmad in his Musnad that intoxicants were prohibited in three stages.

After Prophet's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) immigration to Madina, some people still consumed alcohol and were also involved in gambling. Sahabah asked the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) about these practices still continued by some people. On this the following verse was revealed

.

It is in Quran - يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ الْخَمْرِ وَالْمَيْسِرِ قُلْ فِيهِمَا إِثْمٌ كَبِيرٌ وَمَنَافِعُ لِلنَّاسِ وَإِثْمُهُمَا أَكْبَرُ مِنْ نَفْعِهِمَا [ They ask you about intoxicants and gambling. Say, ‘There is great sin in both, and some benefit for people. The sin is greater than the benefit.] (Al-Baqara - 219)

After the revelation of above verse, many people abandoned the consumption of wine and gambling. However, as the verse did not specifically prohibited both the things, some people continued with it.

After some time, the following command was revealed.

It is in Quran - يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا لَا تَقْرَبُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَأَنْتُمْ سُكَارَى حَتَّى تَعْلَمُوا مَا تَقُولُونَ [ O' Believers, do not pray when you are intoxicated; instead, wait until you can understand what you are saying.] (An-Nisa - 43)

After the revelation of the above verse, many abandoned wine drinking. As it is very difficult to get rid of chronic wine addiction, some people could not abandon it altogether. However, following the command, they curtailed drinking to smaller quantity only in the night so that they are not under its influence during Salah times.

After some time, the above verse (al-Maidah - 90) was revealed completely prohibiting alcohol and gambling.

5:91 Satan only wishes to create among you enmity and hatred through wine and gambling, and to divert you from the remembrance of Allah and prayer. Will you therefore not desist?

5:92 And obey Allah and obey the Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), and beware. And if you turn away, then know that  the responsibility of Our Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) is only to convey the message.

5:93 Those who believe and perform good deeds will not be held accountable for what they have consumed (in the past) if they fear Allah and believe, and do good things and are conscious (of Allah) and believe and still fear and do good, for Allah loves those who do good.

5:94 O People who Believe! Allah will surely test you with some prey that is within reach of your hands and your spears, so that Allah may make known those who fear Him without seeing; so henceforth, a painful punishment is for anyone who transgresses.

5:95 O you who believe, do not kill prey when you are in Ahram. And anyone among you who does so on purpose should offer livestock of equivalent value, determined by two honorable persons among you (as expiation), to be brought to the Kabah as an offering; or else expiate by giving food to the poor, or its equivalent in fasting, so that he may realize the gravity of his deed. Allah has forgiven what has happened in the past; but any one who does so again will be punished by Allah.  And (know that) Allah is severe in requital.

5:96 It is lawful for you to hunt from the sea and to eat from it, for your benefit and that of the travelers; and hunting on land is forbidden for you while you are on the pilgrimage; and fear Allah, before whom you have to gather in the end.

5:97 Allah has made the Ka'ba, the Sacred House, a means of support for mankind, as also the holy month, the sacrificial offerings, and consecrated cattle, so that you may understand that Allah knows  all that is in the heavens and the earth, and Allah has knowledge of all the things.

5:98 Know that the punishment of Allah is severe, but that Allah is also All Forgiving and Most Merciful.

The above verses are about the sanctity of Hajj and about Muslims' etiquette during the sacred months of Hajj. When they are on Hajj pilgrimage, they may find some easy prey and feel tempted to hunt them around the vicinity of Kaba. Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) warned them about it. They are strictly forbidden from hunting when they are in Ahram.

5:99 Not upon the Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) is (any responsibility) except to convey the message (to people). And Allah knows whatever you reveal and whatever you conceal.

5:100 Say, the impure (evil) and the pure (good) are not equal, even though the abundance of the impure may attract you.  Keep fearing Allah, O men of wisdom, so that you may succeed.

5:101 O' believers, do not ask about things which, if made known to you, may vex you. But if you ask about them when the Quran is being revealed they will be unfolded to you. Allah has overlooked (your failings) in this (respect), for Allah is forgiving and forbearing.

5:102 A community asked such (questions) before you; then they became thereby disbelievers.

5:103 Allah has not commanded (to sacrifice) the camel with ears sliced (Bahira) or the she-camel (Saibah) or the she-goat (Wasilah) or the breeding camel (Haam), but the disbelievers fabricate lies against Allah; and most of them do not have any sense.

The practices mentioned in above above verse are detailed below. .

Bahira (بَحِيرَةٍ) - Bahira was the title of the camel. When the she-camel gave birth to her 5th calf, they used to see if it was male or a female. If it was male, they used to slaughter it and all men and women used to eat its meat. If the fifth calf was a female, they used to split its ear and used to call it Bahira. It was meant only for males who used to drink its milk. When she dies, all men and women used to eat its meat.

Saibah (سَائِبَةٍ) - A person, whatever he wanted from his possession, used to dedicate it in the name of an Idol deity and used to take it to the caretakers of the Idols. These caretakers used to give it to the travelers/visitors. If it was an animal, only male travelers were allowed to eat its meat after slaughter. If the animal died of its natural death, its meat used to be eaten by both men and women travelers.

Wasilah (وَصِيلَةٍ) - When the goat gave birth to the 7th kid, and if it was a male, they used to slaughter it and all men and women used to eat its meat. If it was a female, they will let it live but women were not allowed to drink its milk. When this goat dies its natural death, both men and women used to eat its meat. If the goat gave birth to both male and female the 7th time, they used to keep both these goats alive and used to say that they have united both brother and sister. However, only men were allowed to benefit from them. Once they died, both men and women used to eat their meat.

Haam ( حَامٍ) - When the male camel used to mate with its grand daughter (female camel), they used to say that the back of this camel is safe. They used to leave it to feed freely. It was not used for riding or for transporting goods. They used to make sure that other camels do not bother him. When this old camel dies, both men and women used to eat its meat.

Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) says that He did not command Makkan Pagans for those practices.

There was a group of Makkan Pagans, the followers of Umru bin Lahi who used to say that they do not eat (i) Bahira, (ii) Saibah, (iii) Wasilah, and Haami because Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) has forbidden them from it.

Surely, there was no truth in Pagans claims. The pagans were not aware of His commandments in regard to what is allowed and what is forbidden. Their talk in this context was absolutely absurd.

It is in Quran - وَقَالُوا هَذِهِ أَنْعَامٌ وَحَرْثٌ حِجْرٌ لَا يَطْعَمُهَا إِلَّا مَنْ نَشَاءُ بِزَعْمِهِمْ وَأَنْعَامٌ حُرِّمَتْ ظُهُورُهَا وَأَنْعَامٌ لَا يَذْكُرُونَ اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا افْتِرَاءً عَلَيْهِ سَيَجْزِيهِمْ بِمَا كَانُوا يَفْتَرُونَ [ And they said, 'These cattle and crops are forbidden; only those whom we wish can eat them in their opinion' and some cattle are those which they have forbidden riding upon, and some cattle over which they do not mention the name of Allah while slaughtering. All this, is fabricating lies against Allah. He will punish them for what they fabricate. ] (Al-An'aam -138)

It is in Quran - وَقَالُوا مَا فِي بُطُونِ هَذِهِ الْأَنْعَامِ خَالِصَةٌ لِذُكُورِنَا وَمُحَرَّمٌ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِنَا وَإِنْ يَكُنْ مَيْتَةً فَهُمْ فِيهِ شُرَكَاءُ سَيَجْزِيهِمْ وَصْفَهُمْ إِنَّهُ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ [ And they say: 'Whatever is in the wombs of these cattle is only meant for men and forbidden for their women; but in case of an still-born, both could eat it.' (And they claim it is from God). Allah will punish them for what they assert. He is All Wise and All Knowing. ] (Al-An'aam -139)

It is in Quran - وَمِنَ الْإِبِلِ اثْنَيْنِ وَمِنَ الْبَقَرِ اثْنَيْنِ قُلْ آَلذَّكَرَيْنِ حَرَّمَ أَمِ الْأُنْثَيَيْنِ أَمَّا اشْتَمَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ أَرْحَامُ الْأُنْثَيَيْنِ أَمْ كُنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءَ إِذْ وَصَّاكُمُ اللَّهُ بِهَذَا فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ افْتَرَى عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًا لِيُضِلَّ النَّاسَ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ [ And there are two of camels and two of oxen. Ask them, which has He forbidden, the two males or the two females, or what the females carry in their wombs? Were you present at the time when Allah commanded it?" Who then could be more wicked than he who fabricates a lie and ascribes it to Allah to mislead men, without any knowledge? Allah does not guide the unjust. ] (Al-An'aam -144)

5:104 And when it is said to them, 'come to what Allah has revealed and to the Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم),' they say, 'sufficient for us is that upon which we found our fathers.' even though their fathers had no knowledge or guidance.

5:105 O you who believe! take care of yourselves, If you follow the right path, those who have gone astray will not be able to do you harm. To Allah have all of you to return, when He will tell you what you were doing.

5:106 O you who believe, let two honest men among you be witness when you dictate your last 'will'  as (the hour of) death draws near; and if death approaches while you are on a journey, two men other than yours. Detain them after the prayer, and if you doubt their word, make them swear by Allah that : 'We shall not take a bribe even though it be offered by a near relative, nor hide the testimony of Allah, for then we shall surely be sinful.'

Everything that we own goes to our heirs after death except one third of our wealth which can be given to a non-heir. It is important that everyone of us leave our inheritance in such a way that the heirs do not get confused in its distribution. Thus, 'the will of inheritance' is an important document that should be prepared during the lifetime and placed at a safe place.

In the Tafseer of Surah al-Baqara and in An-Nisa, the issue of inheritance has been discussed in detail.

The above verse explains what a person should do if death approaches him and he has not already prepared his 'will'. That person should take two people from Muslims to tell them how to distribute his inheritance. These persons should be righteous and honest so that they don’t cheat the dying person with regards to his bequest.

In case death approaches when the person is traveling and he does not find Muslims, he can take two non-Muslims and hand over cash or belongings he had with him at that time to take them to his heirs and tell them how to distribute his inheritance. In this case, a situation may arise that the deceased family, upon receiving the belongings, suspect that a few items are missing or the witnesses are not telling the whole truth. In this scenario, the witnesses will be asked to stay and after the Salah, they will be asked to swear by God for their truthfulness. When the witnesses have taken their testimony to the truthfulness of their statement, they cannot be suspected or accused by the family members. The following two verses explains what happens if the two witnesses were found guilty of perjury.

5:107 But if it is found that those two were guilty of perjury, let two others stand in their place (who are) foremost (in claim) from those who have a lawful right. And let them swear by Allah, 'Our testimony is truer than their testimony, and we have not transgressed. Indeed, we would then be of the wrongdoers.'

5:108 That is more likely that they will give testimony according to its (true) objective, or (at least) they would fear that (other) oaths might be taken after their oaths. And fear Allah and listen; and Allah does not guide defiantly disobedient people.

5:109 On that day when Allah will gather all the Apostles and say, 'What response did you get (from your people)? They will submit, 'We do not have any knowledge; indeed it is only You, Who knows all that is hidden.'

On the day of judgement all human beings will be resurrected and before individual questioning, Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) will ask the Apostles how their nations responded to their call.

It is in Quran - فَلَنَسْأَلَنَّ الَّذِينَ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَنَسْأَلَنَّ الْمُرْسَلِينَ [ Then We will surely question those to whom the message was sent, and We will surely question the Apostles.] (Al-Araf - 6)

The Apostles will submit, 'We do not have any knowledge; indeed it is only You, Who knows all that is is hidden.

5:110 When Allah will say, "O' Isa Ibn Maryam (عليه السلام), remember My favor upon you and upon your mother when I supported you with the holy Spirit  (Jibreel  عليه السلام) and you spoke to the people in the cradle and in maturity; and (remember) when I taught you the book and wisdom and the Taurait (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel); and when you designed from clay (what was) like the form of a bird with My permission, then you breathed into it, and it became a flying bird with My permission; and you healed the blind and the leper with My permission; and when you made alive the dead with My permission; and when I restrained the children of Israel from (harming) you when you came to them with clear proofs and those who disbelieved among them said, 'this is not but an obvious magic.'

In the above verse, Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) details the dialogue He will have with Isa (عليه السلام) on the day of Judgment. The dialogue confirms that Isa (عليه السلام) is indeed the Apostle of Allah and not the son of God as wrongfully believed by the Christians.

Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) mentions the miracles of Isa (عليه السلام). His birth was a miracle as he was created without the male intervention. His mother was chosen one who had Prophet Zakaraiyya (عليه السلام) as her teacher. She was nourished with the food from Heaven. And Jibreel (عليه السلام) spoke with her.

Isa (عليه السلام) spoke with people in his cradle and also when he attained maturity. He was taught Taurat and Injeel and was blessed with wisdom. He was given exclusive miracles. He would sculpt a bird with clay and breathe into it. It would then become a real bird and fly. He would heal the blind and lepers. He would also bring back the dead from their graves. When Jews plotted to kill him, Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) saved him by making the situation doubtful to them. A man having the semblance of Isa (عليه السلام) was crucified while he was lifted by Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) alive to the heavens.

5:111 And when I inspired into the hearts of the disciples that, ‘Believe in Me and in My Apostle (Isa - عليه السلام)’; they said, ‘We accept faith, and be witness that we are Muslims.'

5:112 When the disciples said : O' Isa Ibn Maryam (عليه السلام), could your Lord send down for us a table spread with food? He said: 'Fear Allah, if you truly believe.'

5:113 They said : 'we would like to eat of it to reassure our hearts and to know that it´s the truth you have told us, and that we should be witness to it.'

5:114 Isa Ibn Maryam (عليه السلام) supplicated, O' Allah, O' our Lord, send down a table spread with food from the Heavens so that this day may be a day of feast for the earlier among us and the later, and a token from You. Provide us sustenance, for You are the Best Provider Of Sustenance.'

5:115 And Allah said : 'I shall send it down to you; but if any of you disbelieve after this, I shall inflict a punishment on him with which no one else shall be punished in the whole worlds.'

5:116 And when Allah will ask, 'O Isa Ibn Maryam (عليه السلام), did you say to the people, 'worship me and my mother as two deities besides Allah?' He will submit, 'exalted  You are. It is not proper for me to say something for which I do not have a right; if I had said that, then surely You know about it; You know what is in my heart, and I do not know what is in Your knowledge; indeed You only know all that is hidden.'

5:117 'I have not told them except what You commanded me, that 'Worship Allah, Who is my Lord and is your Lord'; I was aware of them till I was among them; and when You raised me (alive over the skies), only You watched over them; and all things are evident to You.'

5:118 If You punish them, indeed they are Your servants; if You pardon them, indeed You are Almighty and All wise.

5:119 Allah will say, 'This is the Day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness. For them are gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever; Allah being pleased with them, and they with Him. That is indeed the great attainment.'

5:120 To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is within them. And He has power over all the things.

The Cattle

Al-An'aam | Sura # 6 | 165 verses | Makkan

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

6:1 All praise is for Allah, who created the heavens and the earth and made the darkness and the light. But those who disbelieve,  associate partners with their Lord.

6:2 It is He who created you from clay then determined a term (of life) for you, and a term (is fixed) with Him. Even then you doubt.

6:3 He is Allah who is manifest in the heavens and the earth. He knows all your secrets and disclosures and knows about all your deeds.

6:4 And never does a sign come to them from among the signs of Allah but they turn away from it.

6:5 So they disbelieved the truth when it came to them; but they will soon come to know the reality of what they had ridiculed.

6:6 Do they not see how many civilizations We destroyed before them, whom We had established more firmly in the earth than We have established you (O' Makkans), and We sent for them abundant rain from the sky, and made the rivers flow beneath them? They were destroyed because of their sins and another civilization was created after them.

6:7 And had We sent down to you (O' Prophet ﷺ)  this (Quran) written on paper so that they could feel it with their hands, even then the disbelievers would have said, 'This is nothing but clear magic.'

6:8 And they said, 'Why has not an angel been sent down to him (the Prophet ﷺ)?' And had We sent down an angel, then the matter would have been finished, and they would not get any respite.

Generally, the miracle is followed by severe collective punishment because those who do not want to believe, they will not believe even after the happening of the miracle.

Makkan pagan Chieftains were rejecting the truthfulness of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) not because they did not believe him, rather, they knew that he was truthful, but because they feared that if they believed in him, their worldly status, influence in society, and their large following will go away from them. Therefore, asking for a miracle was just an excuse. Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) says that they will not believe even if the miracle happens in front of them. But in such a scenario, they will be subjected to a collective severe punishment as had been the case with earlier nations.

It is in Quran - الَّذِينَ آتَيْنَاهُمُ الْكِتَابَ يَعْرِفُونَهُ كَمَا يَعْرِفُونَ أَبْنَاءَهُمُ ۘ الَّذِينَ خَسِرُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ [ Those to whom We gave the Book, recognize the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) as they recognize their own sons. The people who put themselves to ruin are those who do not accept faith. ] (Al-An'aam - 20).

6:9 Even if We had sent down an angel as Apostle he would have appeared in the garb of a man and filled them with confusion, like the one they are filled with now.

The Makkan Pagans could not understand the requirement of living on planet earth. Whoever is sent here will have to come in a material body and looked like a human being. Thus, even if an angel was sent as an Apostle, they would have got more confused and will reject him too.

6:10 And certainly, (O' Apostle ﷺ) the Apostles before you were also mocked, so those who laughed at them were ruined as a result of their mocking.

6:11 Tell them to travel in the land and see what happened to those who disbelieved.

6:12 And ask (them) : 'To whom belongs what is in the heavens and the earth?'  Tell (them) : 'To Allah.' He has made Himself merciful towards all the worlds.  (Then) He will gather you on the Day of Resurrection which is certain to come. Only those who have placed themselves on the path of ruin will not believe.

6:13 Whatever dwells in the night and day belongs to Him. He is All Hearing and All Knowing.

6:14 Say, 'Shall I choose  a supporter other than Allah, Who is the creator  of the heavens and the earth, Who provides food (to His creatures) but Himself is Independent (of needs).  Say, I have been commanded to be the first to submit (to Him), and O' people, do not be of the polytheists.

6:15 Say, I will never disobey my Lord as I am aware of the retribution of the great day of Judgment.

6:16 Whosoever is spared that Day will surely have mercy shown to him, and this will be a clear triumph.

6:17 If Allah sends you harm, there is no one but He who can take it away; and if He bring you good, surely He has power over all the things.

6:18 He is the Omnipotent and His servants are dependent upon Him and He is All Wise, and All Aware (about them).

6:19 Say, 'What thing is greatest in testimony?' Say, 'Allah is witness between me and you. And this Qur'an was revealed to me so that I may warn you and those whomever it reaches. (O' disbelievers) Do you testify that with Allah there are other gods? Say (O' Prophet ﷺ), 'I will not testify (with you).' Say, 'Indeed, He is but one God, and indeed, I am free of what you associate (with Him).'

6:20 Those to whom We gave the Book recognize the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) as they recognize their own sons.  The people who put themselves to ruin are those who do not accept faith.

6:21 And who is more unjust than the one who fabricates lies against Allah or denies His signs? Undoubtedly, the unjust will never succeed.

6:22 And the Day We will gather them all together; then We will ask those who associated partners with Allah, 'Where are the partners you used to associate  (with Allah)?'

6:23 Then their excuse will be but to say : 'We swear to You our Lord, we were not the ones who associated partners with You.'

6:24 You will see how they will lie against themselves, and how they realized non-existence of the things they fabricated.

6:25 There are some among them who listen to you quietly. But as their hearts are covered (with darkness in view of their disbelieve), they cannot understand the message.   There is a deafness in their ears; and (even) if they see all the signs, they will not believe in them to an extent that when they debate with you, they say, 'this is nothing but stories of former people.'

6:26 And they forbid others from (believing in) it, and themselves keep away from it. Thus, they ruin none but themselves, but they do not understand.

6:27 And if you see them when they will stand in front of the Hell Fire, they will say, 'Alas, if only we might be sent back and not deny the signs of our Lord, and become Muslims.

6:28 In fact it has become clear to them what they used to hide before; and were they to be sent back, they would commit the same which they were forbidden to, and undoubtedly they are liars.

6:29 They say, 'there is no other life but that of this world, and we will not be raised (from the dead).'

6:30 If you see them when they are put before their Lord, He will tell them,  'Is not this the truth?' They will answer, Indeed  our Lord.'  He will tell,  'then taste the punishment for what you had denied.'

6:31 They are surely losers who call the meeting with Allah a lie. When the Hour comes upon them unawares, they will say : 'Alas, we neglected it' and carry their burdens on their backs' How evil is the burden they will carry?

6:32 And the worldly life is nothing but amusement and diversion; and the abode of the Hereafter is better for the pious; so don't you have any sense?

6:33 We know (O Prophet ﷺ), that you are saddened by what they say. And indeed, it is not that they call you untruthful, rather it is the verses of Allah that the wrongdoers reject (as untruthful).

6:34 And certainly, Apostles were denied before you, but they were patient over the denial, and they were harmed until Our victory came to them. And none can alter the commandments of Allah.  There has certainly come to you ( O' Prophet ﷺ) some information about the (previous) Apostles.

6:35 And if their turning away grieves you,  and you try to show them signs from a tunnel deep into earth or from going up into the sky by a ladder, (they will still not believe). If Allah willed, He would have brought them all upon guidance.  So don't be with the ignorant people (striving to bring light of faith to their hearts as your responsibility is only to convey).

6:36 It is only those who can hear will accept faith.  They will be raised with their dead hearts, then towards Him they will be herded ( on the day of resurrection).

6:37 And they say, 'Why has a sign (Miracle) not been sent down to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) from his Lord?"  Say, 'Indeed, Allah is Able to send down a sign, but most of them do not know.'

6:38 There is not a thing that moves on the earth, no bird that flies on its wings, but has a community of its own like yours. There is nothing that We have left out from the book. Then they will all be gathered before their Lord.

6:39 And those who deny Our signs are deaf and dumb (wandering) in the realm of darkness. Allah sends whosoever He wills astray and leads whom He wills to the straight path.

6:40 Say, (O' People) 'Have you considered if there came to you the punishment of Allah or there came to you the Hour, is it other than Allah you would invoke if you are truthful?'

6:41 In fact you will only call upon Him, and if He wills, He may remove that (punishment) because of which you prayed to Him, and you will forget the partners (you ascribed to Him).

6:42 We have indeed sent Apostles to many nations before you, and  they were inflicted by hardships and afflictions so that they become humbled.

6:43 Then why, when Our punishment came to them, they did not humble themselves? Rather their hearts became hardened, and Satan made attractive to them what they were doing.

6:44 When they had become oblivious of what they were warned, We opened wide the gates of everything to them; yet as they rejoiced at what they were given, We caught them unawares, and they were filled with despair.

6:45 Then the people who committed wrong were cut off completely. And all praise is for Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

6:46 Say: 'Imagine if Allah takes away your hearing and sight, and sets a seal on your hearts, then is there any god besides Allah who could restore it for you? Look how We explain the verses to them, yet they turn away.

6:47 Say : 'Imagine if the punishment of Allah were to come unawares, or openly, no one will perish except the evil-doers?'

6:48 We do not send Apostles but to give good tidings and to warn. Then those who believe or reform will have neither fear nor regret.

6:49 And those who deny Our signs, the punishment will afflict them for their disobedience.

6:50 Say (O' Prophet  ﷺ) 'I do not say to you that I possess the treasures of Allah, nor do I say that I gain knowledge of the hidden on my own, nor do I say to you that I am an angel; I only follow what is divinely revealed to me'.  Say, 'Will the blind and the one who can see ever be equal? Why don't you  think (about it)?'

6:51 Warn those who fear through this (Quran), that they will be gathered before their Lord, and they will have none to protect or intercede for them except Him. They may perhaps take heed and become pious.

The above verse and similar other verses in Quran are related to disbelievers. Surely, there will be none to protect them or intercede for them on the day of Resurrection.

As far as Muslims are concerned, those who have Iman in their hearts equal to the weight of mustard seed, they will benefit from the intercession of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and other dignitaries of Islam and Awliya Allah.

It is in Hadith - It is narrated on the authority of Anas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, 'The people will be kept (waiting) on the Day of Resurrection so long that they will become worried and say, let us ask someone to intercede for us with our Lord. They will go to Hadhrat Adam (عليه السلام), who will ask them to go to Nooh (عليه السلام). Nooh (عليه السلام) in turn will ask them to go to Ibrahim (عليه السلام). Ibrahim (عليه السلام) will ask them to go to Musa (عليه السلام), who will in turn will ask them to go Isa (عليه السلام). And Isa (عليه السلام) will ask them to go to Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) for intercession.

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) continued, 'so the believers will come to me, and I will ask my Lord’s permission to enter His presence and then I will be permitted. When I see Him I will fall down in prostration before Him, and He will leave me (in prostration) as long as He wills, and then He will say, ‘O Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), lift up your head and speak, for you will be listened to, and intercede, for your intercession will be accepted, and ask (for anything) for it will be granted:’ Then I will raise my head and glorify my Lord with certain praises which He has taught me. Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) will put a limit for me (to intercede for a certain type of people) I will take them out and make them enter Paradise.' (Qatada said: I heard Anasؓ saying that), the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, “I will go out and take them out of Hell (Fire) and let them enter Paradise, and then I will return and ask my Lord for permission to enter His presence and I will be permitted.

When I see Him (again) I will fall down in prostration before Him and He will leave me in prostration as long as He wants me (in that state), and then He will say, ‘O Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), raise your head and speak, for you will be listened to, and intercede, for your intercession will be accepted, and ask, your request will be granted.’ The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) added, “So I will raise my head and glorify and praise Him as He has taught me. Then I will intercede and He will put a limit for me (to intercede for a certain type of people). I will take them out and let them enter Paradise.'

(Qatada added : I heard Anasؓ saying that) the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, ‘I will go out and take them out of Hell (Fire) and let them enter Paradise, and I will return for the third time and will ask my Lord for permission to enter His presence and I will be allowed to enter.

When I see Him, I will fall down in prostration before Him, and will remain in prostration as long as He will, and then He will say, ‘Raise your head, O' Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), and speak, for you will be listened to, and intercede, for your intercession will be accepted, and ask, for your request will be granted.’ So I will raise my head and praise Allah as He has taught me and then I will intercede and He will put a limit for me (to intercede for a certain type of people). I will take them out and let them enter Paradise.”

(Qatada said: I heard Anasؓ saying that) the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, “So I will go out and take them out of Hell (Fire) and let them enter Paradise, till none will remain in the Fire except those whom Quran will imprison (those who are destined for eternal life in the fire). The narrator then recited the Verse - عَسَىٰ أَن يَبْعَثَكَ رَبُّكَ مَقَامًا مَّحْمُودًا [ It is expected that your Lord will resurrect you to a praised station] (Al-Israa - 79). The narrator added : This is the Station of Praise and Glory which Allah has promised to your Prophet (Bukhari)

6:52 And do not send away those who call upon their Lord morning and afternoon, seeking His countenance. Not upon you is anything of their account and not upon them is anything of your account.   If these poor people are sent away, (as desired by the worldly people), it will be contrary to the just treatment (the characteristics of the worldly people.)

6:53 And similarly We have made some as a trial for others, that the wealthy disbelievers upon seeing the needy Muslims say, 'Are these (the people) whom Allah has favored among us?' Does not Allah recognize those who are thankful?

6:54 And when those who believe in Our signs come humbly in your presence, say to them, 'Peace be on you, your Lord is merciful and graceful (towards His servants). Thus, whoever among you commits a sin out of ignorance, and thereafter repents and reforms (himself), then indeed Allah is All Forgiving, Most Merciful.'

6:55 And this is how We explain Our verses clearly so that the way of the sinners become exposed.

6:56 Say, 'I have been forbidden to worship those whom you worship other than Allah'; say, 'I do not follow your desires; if it were, I would then go astray and not be on the right path.'

6:57 Tell them: 'A clear proof has come to me from my Lord, and Him you deny. But what you wish to be hastened is not within my power. The judgement is only Allah´s. He unfolds the Truth, and is the best of judges."

6:58 Say: 'If what you wish to be hastened were in my power, all matters between you and me would have been settled; Allah is aware of those who are unjust.'

6:59 He has the keys of the Unseen.  No one but He has knowledge. He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls without His knowledge, nor a grain in the darkest layer of the earth, nor any thing green or dry that is not recorded in the Manifest book.

6:60 It is He indeed who sends you to sleep at night, and knows what you do in the day, then makes you rise with it again in order that the fixed term of life be fulfilled. Then to Him you will be returned when He will tell you what you did.

The Arabic word Wafaat (وفاة) carries two meanings, (i) to take, and (ii) death. In death, Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) takes us away from this world. In the above verse the meaning of (يَتَوَفَّاكُمْ) is sleep, and not death.

Not knowing the correct meaning of this word, some people claim that Prophet Isa (عليه السلام) died in this world.

It is in Quran - إِذْ قَالَ اللَّهُ يَا عِيسَى إِنِّي مُتَوَفِّيكَ وَرَافِعُكَ إِلَيَّ وَمُطَهِّرُكَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَجَاعِلُ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوكَ فَوْقَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ثُمَّ إِلَيَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَأَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ فِيمَا كُنْتُمْ فِيهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَ [ When Allah said : "O' Isa (عليه السلام), I will take you and raise you towards Me (and you will be kept alive to complete your age on Earth) and will exalt you, and rid you of the infidels, and keep those who follow you above those who disbelieve till the Day of Resurrection. You all then have to return back to Me when I will judge between you concerning the matter in which they dispute. ] (Aal-e-Imran - 55)

In the above verse it is (إِنِّي مُتَوَفِّيكَ) which means I will take you. Those who do not understand this, translate it 'I will make you die'. This is sheer ignorance on their part and with this they deny the truthful teachings of Islam about Isa (عليه السلام).

This can also be understood from the following verse Allah says (تَوَفَّتْهُ رُسُلُنَا) meaning 'angels take him'.

6:61 He has power over His creatures, and appoints guardians to watch over them. When death comes to one of you, Our angels take him, and do not falter.

6:62 Then they (servants) are returned to Allah, their true Lord. Unquestionably, His is the judgement, and He is swift in taking account.

6:63 Say, 'Who rescues you from the calamities of the land and the sea,  Whom you call upon crying loudly and in whispers that, ‘If we are saved from this we will surely be grateful?'

6:64 Say, 'It is Allah who saves you from it and from every distress; then you  associate partners with Him.'

6:65 Say, 'He has power over you to send punishment from above you or from beneath your feet, or to cause you to fight each other by dividing you into different groups, and make you taste the harshness of one another'. Look how We explain the verses so that they may understand.

6:66 And your people (O' Prophet ﷺ) denied it whereas this is undoubtedly the truth. Tell them, 'I am not responsible for you.'

6:67 A time is fixed for every prophecy; you will come to know in time.

6:68 (O' believers) when you see those who argue in Our verses, turn away from them until they engage in another topic; and if the devil causes you to forget, then do not sit with the unjust after remembering.

6:69 And those who are pious are not held accountable for the disbelievers at all, apart from giving of advice so that they may heed.

6:70 And leave those who take their religion as amusement and diversion and whom the worldly life has deluded. But remind (them) with the Qur'an, lest someone gives up the destruction what he earned. He will have no protector and no intercessor other than Allah. And if he should offer compensation, it would not be accepted from him. Those are the ones who are given to destruction for what they have earned. For them will be a drink of boiling water and a painful punishment because they used to disbelieve.

6:71 Say, 'Shall we invoke instead of Allah that which neither benefits us nor harms us,  and turn back on our heels after Allah has guided us?  Like the one whom the devils enticed  upon the earth confused, (while) he has companions inviting him to guidance, (calling), 'Come to us.'   Say, 'Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the guidance; and we have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds.

6:72 Establish prayers and fear (Allah), for it is He before whom you will be gathered (in the end).

6:73 And it is He Who created the heavens and the earth with a definite purpose; and when He will say 'Be' on the Day (of resurrection) to all the existing things, it will happen immediately; His Word is true; and it will be His kingship on the day when the Trumpet is blown.  He has knowledge of the hidden and the manifest, and He only is the Wise, and Aware.

6:74 Remember when Ibrahim (عليه السلام) said to (the brother of) his father, Azar,  'why do you take idols as gods. I certainly find you and your people in error.'

The literal meanings of this verse that come to a reader's mind are : Ibrahim (عليه السلام) said to his father whose name was Azar. But as per the rules of laconic usage, descriptive linguistics and rhetoric, this is not a correct understanding because it is mentioned that 'Ibrahim (عليه السلام) said to his father, Azar', which denotes different meanings.

Like, no one says, 'My father, Husain, is coming'. We only say 'My father is coming'.

If we talk of a relationship and a name at the same time, people will understand that there are more than one person associated with that relationship. If we have only one person associated with the relationship (like father), we will only say, “My father is coming".

[Nay! were you witness when death visited Yaqoub (عليه السلام), when he said to his sons : What will you serve (worship) after me? They said : We will serve (worship) your God and the God of your fathers; Ibrahim (عليه السلام) and Ismail (عليه السلام) and Ishaq (عليه السلام); one God only, and to Him do we submit.] ( Al-Baqara - 133).

In the above verse, the sons of Yaqoub (عليه السلام) are referring to, both Ishaq (عليه السلام) and Ismail (عليه السلام), as their fathers ( آبَائِكَ ). Ishaq (عليه السلام) is their grand father, and Ismail (عليه السلام) is the brother of Ishaq (عليه السلام). Thus, it is proved that the word ( أبي ) is used in Quran for both biological father, brother of father or grand father.

It is in Quran - وَمَا كَانَ اسْتِغْفَارُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ إِلَّا عَن مَّوْعِدَةٍ وَعَدَهَا إِيَّاهُ فَلَمَّا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ أَنَّهُ عَدُوٌّ لِّلَّهِ تَبَرَّأَ مِنْهُ ۚ إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لَأَوَّاهٌ حَلِيمٌ [ Ibrahim (عليه السلام) would not have asked forgiveness for his father but for a promise he made to him, and when it became clear to him that he was an enemy of Allah, he renounced him. Ibrahim (عليه السلام) had a tender heart and was forbearing.] (At-Tauba -114).

Read the above verse carefully; it says 'Ibrahim (عليه السلام) would not have asked forgiveness for his father but for a promise he made to him'.

Remember, we do not pray for our parents because we make a promise to them. We do it as mandatory and obligatory on us. We might make a promise to our relatives that we will do dua for them in a specific issue. Thus, the verse shows the relationship of Ibrahim (عليه السلام) with Azar, which was not that of a son and biological father, rather it was the relationship between two relatives. He asked for forgiveness for (his uncle/brother of his father) Azar because he promised him once. But when Ibrahim (عليه السلام) realized that he was an Idol worshiper and the enemy of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ), he renounced him.

It is in Quran - رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسَابُ [O our Lord! grant protection to me, my parents and the believers on the day when the reckoning shall come to pass! ] (Ibrahim - 41).

In the above verse, Ibrahim (عليه السلام) is praying for protection for himself, his both parents (who were Momineen) and general believers on the Day of Judgment. This Quranic verse shows Azar, who was an Idol worshiper, was not the father of Ibrahim (عليه السلام).

It is in Hadith - Anas Ibn Malik (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrates that one day Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) stood on the pulpit and informed (sahabah) the names of his ancestors:

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said: Ana, Mohammad Ibn Abdullah, bin Abdul Muttalib, bin Hashim, bin Abd Manaf, bin Qusa'i, bin Kilab, bin Murra, bin Ka'b, bin Lu'ayy, bin Ghalib, bin Fihr, bin Malik, bin an-Nadr, bin Kinanah, bin Khuzaimah, bin Mudrikah, bin Elias, bin Mudar, bin Nizar, bin Ma'ad, bin Adnan, bin Udad, bin Asha'b, bin Saleh, bin Salooq, bin Hameesa, bin Nabad, bin Khizaar, bin Ismail (عليه السلام), bin Ibrahim (عليه السلام), bin Tariq.

(Baihaqi, Hakim, Ahmed, Ibn Kathir in Bidaya wan Nihaya and Ibn Asakir)

It is clear from the above Hadith that the father of Ibrahim (عليه السلام) was Tariq, a Momin; while his uncle Azar was an Idol worshiper.

Ibn Jarir al-Tabari in his Tafsir and History book has mentioned that - Azar was not the father of Ibrahim (عليه السلام). ( History of Tabari, Vol. 1, Page 119. and Tafsir-e-Tabari by Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, Vol. 7, page 158).

Ibn Kathir has written in al-Bidaya wan Nihaya - Ibrahim (عليه السلام) was the son of Tariq. When Tareq was 75 years old, Ibrahim (عليه السلام) was born to him. (al-Bidaya wan Nihaya, vol 1, page 139)

Shaikh Mohammad Abdul Qadeer Siddiqui (رحمتہ اللہ علیہ) has written in his Tafseer-e-Siddiqui that Azar was the brother of the father of Ibrahim (عليه السلام). (Tafseer-e-Siddiqui)

6:75 Thus We showed to Ibrahim (عليه السلام) the visible and invisible world of the heavens and the earth, that he could be among those who have certainty of believe.

6:76 So when the night became dark upon him he saw a star; he said (is) it  my Lord (as the people portray it)? Then when it set he said, 'I do not like the things that set.'

6:77 Then when he saw the moon shining, he said, (is) it my Lord (as the people portray it).  Then when it set, he said, 'If my Lord had not guided me, I too would be one of these people who have gone astray.

6:78 Then when he saw the sun shining brightly, he said, (is) this my Lord (as the people claim it to be). This is the biggest of them all!; then when it set he said, 'O' people! I do not have any relation with whatever you ascribe as partners (to Him).

6:79 Indeed, I have turned my face toward He who created the heavens and the earth, inclining toward truth, and I am not of those who associate others with Allah.

6:80 And his people argued with him. He said, 'Do you argue with me concerning Allah while He has guided me? And I fear not what you associate with Him.  (And I will not be harmed) unless my Lord wills it to happen.   My Lord encompasses all the things in knowledge; then will you not reflect?

6:81 And how should I fear what you associate while you do not fear that you have associated with Allah that for which He has not sent down to you any authority? So which of the two parties has more right to security, if you should know?

6:82 Those who believed and did not mix it with injustice (disbelief), the refuge is only for them, and only they are on guidance.

6:83 And this is Our argument, which We gave Ibrahim (عليه السلام) against his people; We raise to high ranks whomever We will; indeed your Lord is Wise, All Knowing.

6:84 And We bestowed upon him Ishaq and Yaqoob (عليهم السلام). We guided all of them.  And We guided Nooh before them and of his descendants, Dawood and Sulaiman and Ayyub and Yusuf and Moosa and Haroon (عليهم السلام); and this is the way We reward the pious.

6:85 And (We guided) Zakaria and Yahya and Isa and Ilyas (عليهم السلام);

6:86 And Ismael and Yasa’a and Yunus and Loot (عليهم السلام); and to each one during their times We gave excellence over all others.

6:87 And (some) among their fathers and their descendants and their brothers,  and We chose them and We guided them to a straight path.

6:88 This is the guidance of Allah, which He may give to whoever He wills among His servants; and had they ascribed partners (to Allah), their deeds would have been wasted.

6:89 These are the ones whom We gave the Book and wisdom and the Prophet-hood; so if these people do not believe in it, We have then kept ready for it a nation who do not reject (the truth).

6:90 Those are the ones whom Allah has guided, so from their guidance take an example. Say (O' Prophet ﷺ), 'I do not ask you any material compensation for this message.  It is not but a reminder for the worlds.'

6:91 And they (the Jews) did not realize the importance of Allah as was required when they said, 'Allah has not sent down anything upon any human being'.  Say (O'Prophet ﷺ), 'Who has sent down the Book which Musa (عليه السلام) brought, a light and guidance for mankind, which you have divided into different papers, some which you show and hide most of them? And (by which) you are taught what you did not know nor did your forefathers?' Say (O' Prophet ﷺ), (Its) Allah, (who has  sent down the books).  And leave them to the evil sport of engaging in vain discourse.

6:92 And this is a Book We have sent down, (which is) blessed, confirming what was before it, that you may warn the Mother of Cities (Makka al-Mukarrama) and those around it. Those who believe in the Hereafter, believe in it, and they guard their prayers.

6:93 Who is more unjust than one who fabricates lies against Allah or says, 'I have received divine inspiration', whereas he has not been revealed,  and one who says, 'I will now reveal something similar to what Allah has sent down'? And if you see, when the unjust are in the throes of death,  and the angels with their hands outstretched (saying), 'Surrender yourselves; this day you shall be given a disgraceful punishment, (which is) the retribution of your fabricating lies against Allah and rejecting His signs with arrogance.'

6:94 And indeed you (the disbelievers) have now come to Us alone as We had created you at first, and you have left behind all the wealth and riches We had given to you. We do not see your intercessors (idols) along with you whom you claimed were among you.  Indeed the link between you (and your claimed deities) is cut off, and you lost all what you used to claim.

6:95 Indeed it is Allah Who splits the grain and the seed; it is He Who brings forth living from the dead, and it is He Who brings forth dead from the living;  such is Allah; so how are you deluded?

6:96 He is the cleaver of the day break and made the night for rest, and the sun and the moon a count (for time); this is the command set by (Him) the Almighty, the All Knowing.

6:97 And it is He Who has created the stars for you, so that you may find your way by them in the darkness of the land and the sea; indeed We have explained Our verses in detail for the people who know.

6:98 And it is He Who has created you from a single Nafs, then you have to stop over at a place (on land), and stay entrusted in another (in grave); indeed We have explained Our verses in detail for people of understanding.

6:99 It is He who sends down water from the skies, and brings out of it everything that grows, the green foliage, the grain lying close, the date palm trees with clusters of dates, and the gardens of grapes, and of olives and pomegranates, so similar yet so unlike. Look at the fruits, how they appear on the trees, and they ripen. In all these are signs for those who believe.

6:100 And out of ignorance they have ascribed jinns as partners of Allah, whereas it is He Who created them, and they have invented sons and daughters for Him.  Exalted is He and high above what they ascribe.

6:101 The Originator of the heavens and the earth; how can He possibly have a child when He does not have a companion? And He has created all the things; and knows about everything.

6:102 Such is Allah, your Lord; and none is worthy of worship except Him; the Creator of all things; therefore worship Him; and He takes care of everything.

6:103 Eyes cannot encircle Him, He encircles all vision. He is the Most Subtle, the Fully Aware.

What we see is 'appearance' or 'Manifestation'. The meaning of Manifestation are (i) Sign ( آيت ), (ii) Refulgence (تجلي ) (iii) Expression (إظهار), (iv) Appearance ( ظهور ), and (v) Materialization (تجسد or التحقق).

Absolute Existence of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) cannot be manifested in any of the above meanings or in a shape, body, form of any kind - exclusive, divine or creature like. Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is free from time, place, form and composition, physical or spiritual. He does not live in a place and is not made up of parts like hands, eyes, face, etc. He is pure from the consideration of any kind of body; physical, spiritual, visible or invisible. His Unity (Zaat-e-Elahi) cannot be expressed within the limitations of time, space and dwelling. Therefore, it cannot be seen by human beings, from their physical eyes or the eyes of their hearts or spiritual eyes. No one can see Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ), including Prophets, Awliya Allah or anybody, in this world, or in Hereafter, or beyond. This is the meaning of the above Quranic verse. Whoever has seen Him, has either seen His Tajalli-e-Zaati (نُور ) or Tajalli-e-Sifaati (in the shape of His creatures). The entire cosmos and all worlds in it, are the places of manifestation of Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) Signs or Tajalliyat which can appear in any form or shape.

It is in Hadith - Ibn Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said - I saw my Lord, the Exalted and Glorious in the most beautiful form. Akrama (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, on this I submitted, does not Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) say that “Peoples’ eyes cannot perceive Him. He perceives their eyes.”, then Ibn Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, Hey this is true when Allah’s (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) refulgence (Tajalli) is from the divine light which is the “Light of His Unity”. Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) has seen his Sustainer (Rab) twice”. (Tirmidhi).

The above Hadith clearly distinguishes between Manifestation of Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) Tajalli-e-Zaati (which is referred to as 'Light of His Unity') and Tajalli-e-Sifaati - Manifestation of Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) Attributes. Prophet Mohammad ( صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) saw Allah in both Tajalli-e-Zaati and Tajalli-e-Sifaati. In Tajalli-e-Zaati, what the Prophet ( صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) witnessed is formless light (نُور); and in Tajalli-e-Sifaati, the Prophet ( صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) saw Allah in the shape of a human being.

The following points are to be remembered in this context.

(i) Sighting of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) in Tajalli-e-Asma wo Sifaat will be in the shape of His creatures or in the shape of a human being or any other shape.

(ii) Sighting of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) in Tajalli-e-Zaati is (نُور) formless light of His knowledge.

(iii) If a person has seen Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) in a dream in the shape of human being and he remembers that shape and dream very well. He can remember that shape and hold it in highest respect. However, it is not allowed for him to draw the picture of that human shape, place it in front of him as Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) picture and prostrate. If he does that, it will be treated as Shirk. Similarly, if he considers that what he saw is the shape of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and imaginatively confines / encompasses Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) Unity into that shape and performs Salah five times a day with that belief, his Salah will be treated as idol worship.

(iv) Salafis, Hindus, Christians (and their like minded groups) have made terrible blunder in understanding Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) Unity (Zaat). They imagine Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) in a physical shape which has eyes, hands, face, body, etc. This kind of belief is Idol worship. Salafis' so-called-Salah five times a day, with this belief, is nothing but absolute idol worship because, as per their belief, they are encompassing/confining/arresting the Unity of Allah (Zaat-e-Elahi) into an imaginary body sitting on a big chair over the skies. (La Haula wala QuwwataIlla Billah)

(v) If a person who follows Salafism in any of its formats is seen prostrating or doing Salah in a mosque or in front of Kabatullah or in Masjid-e-Nabawi, the Angels who record his deeds will write his name as Idol worshiper only because he is prostrating to an Idol who is made up of a physical human-like body and who is sitting on the Skies. There cannot be two opinions in this context because his intention is very well known to the Angels. He will also be recorded as a Hypocrite (Munafiq) in angels' books because he is claiming himself to be a Muslim.

(vi) We pray the Unity of Allah (Zaat-e-Elahi) that cannot be encompassed into any shape, form or body; exclusive or creature like. Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is free from time, place, form and composition. He does not live in a place and is not made up of parts like hands, eyes, face, etc. His Unity (Zaat-e-Elahi) cannot be expressed within the limitations of time, space and dwelling. He is beyond the imaginations of human beings.

6:104 To you have come signs from your Lord, (and the light of understanding). So any one who sees (understands) does so for himself, and any one who turns blind, shall suffer the consequences alone. (Say O' Prophet ﷺ) 'I am not a guardian over you (to make you understand while you are unwilling).

6:105 And this is how We explain Our verses in different ways that they (listeners) may say to you, (O' Prophet ﷺ), 'You have read out (explained) to us (fully), and have made it clear for the people who understand.'

6:106 Follow what is divinely revealed to you from your Lord; there is none worthy of worship except Him; and turn away from the polytheists.

6:107 And if Allah willed, they would not ascribe (partners to Him).  You are not guardian of (the disbelievers) and  you are not responsible for them.

6:108 (O' believers) And do not insult those they invoke other than Allah, lest they disrespect Allah in enmity without knowledge. We have made pleasing to every community their deeds. Then to their Lord is their return, and He will inform them about what they used to do.

It is important that we do not insult the objects worshiped by different people in the world. We need to explain the facts of Islam in a polite and understanding way without hurting the feelings of the listeners. If we do not take care of this, it may so happen that they will also start accusing and insulting Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and other dignitaries of Islam.

It is described in the above verse that 'Allah has made pleasing to every community their deeds'. This shows that it is not appropriate for us to criticize the cultural traditions of other people. If these relate to apostasy and idol worship or immorality in society, we can explain them about it in a polite manner giving evidences that what they are doing is harmful to them.

6:109 And they swear by Allah in their strongest oaths saying if a sign (Miracle) came to them, they would surely believe in it. Say, 'The signs are only with Allah.' Yet for all you know, they will not believe if the signs came to them.

6:110 (In view of their evil nature) We will keep their hearts and eyes (blocked). As they did not believe earlier (they will also not believe now).  Thus we will leave them to wander perplexed in bewilderment.
