Juz 25 -

Explained In Detail

Fussilat | Sura # 41 | 54 verses | Makkan

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

41:47 With Him (alone) is the knowledge of the Hour. No fruit comes out of its husk, nor does a female conceive or deliver without His knowledge. And (consider) the Day He will call to them, 'Where are My (so-called) associate-gods?' They will cry, 'We declare before you that none of us testifies to that (any longer).'

41:48 Whatever (idols) they used to invoke besides Allah will fail them. And they will realize that they will have no escape.

41:49 People don’t get tired of asking good (things from Allah), but if an evil touches them, they give up all hope and are lost in despair.

41:50 And if We let them taste a mercy from Us after being touched with adversity, they will certainly say, 'This is what I deserve. I do not think the Hour will (ever) come. And if in fact I am returned to my Lord, the finest reward with Him will definitely be mine.'  But We will surely inform the disbelievers of what they used to do. And We will certainly make them taste a harsh torment.

The reasons for such assertions are the result of the disbelievers' worldly wealth and affluence. They think that their prosperity is the testimony that they are on the right path. This is the reason they think even if there is a world of Resurrection, they will be rewarded with bounties there as well, as they are rewarded in this world. Similar is the state of the followers of deviant sects who claim that their prosperity in this world is the sign that they are on the right path of Islam.

41:51 When We show favor to a person, he withdraws and turns away; but when evil touches the (same) person, then he has long supplications.

41:52 (O' Prophet  ﷺ), ask them : 'Have you ever considered : if this Quran is really from Allah and you deny it, who can be more astray than you,  who have gone too far in defying Him?'

41:53 We will show them Our signs on the horizons and in themselves, until it is clear to them that this is the Truth. Is it not sufficient that your Lord is a Witness over all things?

41:54 In truth they are in doubt that they will ever face their Lord. Do they not know that He encompasses all things?

Ash-Shura | Sura # 42 | 53 verses | Makkan

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

حم١

42:1 Ha-meem

42:2 Ain-Seen-Qaaf

'Ha-meem' and 'Ain-Seen-Qaaf' are known as ‘Solemn Verses' (Ayaat-e-Muqatta'at - آیاتِ مقطعات).

Fourteen Arabic alphabets have been used, in varied combinations, in 14 ‘Solemn Verses' (Ayaat-e-Muqatta'at - آیاتِ مقطعات) in the form of initials of 29 Chapters (سورة) of holy Quran. Ha-meem ( حم ) and Ain-Seen-Qaaf (عسق) are from them.

Since Quran is 'Mubeen' (الْمُبِينِ); its description is clear and manifest. The meanings of all the verses of Quran, including 'Solemn Verses' (آیاتِ مقطعات) are surely known to its principle addressee, ie., Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). It is also likely that Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) has informed the meanings of these Verses to some of his Sahabah and Awliya Allah.

We believe in whatever is meant by the 'Solemn Verses' (آیاتِ مقطعات) by Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم).

Since we have been commanded to read the Quran carefully and try to understand the significance of every verse of the Quran, we do ponder over these verses. And when we think, by focusing our attention towards Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) for guidance, it comes to our mind that the 'Solemn Verses' (آیاتِ مقطعات) are actually the 'Solemn Titles of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) given by Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) throughout the Quran. Our understanding is based on the fact that Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) has addressed Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) in the Quran by specific names, like Muzzammil (مزمل - O' beloved who covers self in a coverlet), Muddassir (مدثر - O' beloved, who covers self in a bed sheet). With this understanding, it is most likely that Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) other names / titles have been mentioned in Quran by denoting certain initials/alphabets.

42:3 Thus, Allah, the All Mighty, All-Wise sends His revelation to you, (O' Prophet  ﷺ), as He sent to other Apostles before you.

42:4 To Him belongs everything in the heavens and everything on earth. He is the Most High and Great.

42:5 (In submission and in  awe of Him) the skies nearly burst apart, one above the other. And the angels glorify the praises of their Lord (incessantly), and seek forgiveness for those on earth.   Surely Allah alone is the All Forgiving, Most Merciful.

42:6 Those who have taken protectors other than Him, are watched over by Allah. And (O' Prophet  ﷺ  ignore them). You are not a trustee over them.

42:7 Thus We have revealed to you (O' Prophet ﷺ) this Quran in Arabic so that you may warn the residents of the mother of cities (Makkah) and whoever is around it. Warn them of the Day of Assembling;  there is no doubt about it; when a group (believers) will go to Paradise and a group (disbelievers, will be thrown) in the blazing fire.

42:8 If Allah had willed, He would have made them one nation, but He admits whom He wills to His Mercy. The wrongdoers will not have any protector or helper.

42:9 How can they take protectors besides Him? Allah alone is the Protector. He (alone) gives life to the dead. He has power over all the things.

42:10 (O' Prophet  ﷺ), tell them : Whatever the subject of your dispute is, its Judgment belongs to Allah. Such is Allah,  My Lord, in Him I have put my trust, and to Him I turn in repentance,

42:11 (He is) the Originator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you spouses from among yourselves, and (made) mates for cattle (as well), multiplying you (both). There is nothing like Him.  He is the All Hearing, All Seeing.

42:12 To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth. He gives abundantly to whom He pleases and sparingly to whom He wills. He is the Knower of all things.

42:13 He has ordained for you the same religion (Islam) which He ordained for Nooh (عليه السلام), and which He has revealed to you (O' Prophet  ﷺ), and which He ordained for Ibrahim, Musa and Isa (عليهم السلام) (enjoining) : 'You should uphold the faith, and not get divided into (sects).'  What you call the polytheists to,  is unbearable for them.  Allah chooses for Himself whoever He wills, and guides to Himself whoever turns (to Him).

42:14 They were not divided till after knowledge had come to them through selfish transgressions among themselves. Had it not been for a word (to defer punishment), that went forth before from your Lord  for an appointed term, the matter would have been settled between them.   Surely, those who were made to inherit the Scripture after them,  are in serious doubt concerning it (the Quran).

42:15 Therefore, call them to Islam, stay firm on the right path as you are commanded,  and do not follow their vain desires. Tell them : 'I believe in whatever Allah has revealed from the Book and I am commanded to do justice between you. Allah is Our Lord and your Lord.  We are responsible for Our deeds,  and you for yours. Let there be no dispute among us. Allah will bring us all together on the Day of Judgment and decide as to who is right and who is wrong, and to Him is the final return.

42:16 Those who dispute concerning Allah after accepting (obedience) to Him, their dispute is futile in the sight of their Lord, on them is the wrath (of Allah), and for them there will be a severe punishment.

42:17 It is Allah Who has revealed the Book with the truth, and truthful religion, and trustworthy Apostle You never know, perhaps the Hour is near.

42:18 Only they who do not believe in it (Resurrection) wish to hasten it;  but those who believe,  are in fear of it, for they know it to be true.  Surely those who are in doubt about the Hour (of Judgement) are wandering far astray.

42:19 Allah is gracious to His servants, and bestows favors on whosoever He wills. He is Omnipotent Almighty.

42:20 Whoever desires the fruits of the Hereafter, We shall add to his fruit. As for him who desires the fruits of this world, We shall give him of these, but he will have no share in the Hereafter.

42:21 Or do they have partners (of Allah), who have instituted for them (wrongful things) in religion which Allah has not allowed?   Had it not been a decisive word (the Day of Judgment), the matter would have been judged between them? Surely, for the wrongdoers, there is a painful punishment.

42:22 You will see (on the Day of Judgement) that the wrongdoers will fear for what they have earned, and it (the punishment) will befall them. While those who believe and do righteous deeds will be in the flowering meadows of the gardens (Paradise) and will receive for them what they wish from their Lord. That is (truly) the greatest bounty.

42:23 Such a blessing is the good news which Allah gives to His servants who believe and do good deeds. (O Prophet  ﷺ), say to them : 'I do not ask you any recompense except your love for my  close relatives (Ahl-e-Bait -  رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم اجمعين)'.  He who does a good deed shall be repaid many times over.   Surely Allah is All Forgiving, Most Appreciative.

The love of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and his Ahle-Bait-e-At-Haar is part of Iman.

It is in Quran - النَّبِيُّ أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَأَزْوَاجُهُ أُمَّهَاتُهُمْ [ The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) has a more right on the believers than their own selves, and his wives are their mothers.] (Al-Ahzab - 6)

Two important things have been mentioned in the above verse, as follows.

(i) The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) has a more right on the believers than their own selves.

(ii) The wives of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) are the mothers of the believers.

What is the meaning of 'the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) has more right on the believers than their own selves.?'

It means that believers should love the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) more than their own selves. His decision in collective and individual issues of the believers are binding upon them even if they are unable to comprehend it.

(i) It is in Quran - يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَلَا تَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ وَأَنتُمْ تَسْمَعُونَ [ O' Believers, obey Allah and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and do not turn from him while you hear (his order). (Al-Anfaal - 20)

(ii) It is in Hadith -It is narrated on the authority of Anas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'None of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father, his children and all mankind. (Bukhari)

(iii) It is in Hadith - It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Hisham (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that he said : We were with the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and he was holding the hand of 'Umar bin Al-Khattab (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ). 'Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said to Him, O' Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) you are dearer to me than everything except my own self.' The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, 'No, by Him in Whose Hand my soul is, (you will not have complete Iman) till I am dearer to you than your own self.' Then Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said to him, 'However, now, by Allah, you are dearer to me than my own self.' The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, 'Now, O' Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) (you are a true believer). (Bukhari)

(iii) It is in Hadith It is narrated on the authority of Anas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that : A man asked the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) about the Hour, saying, 'When will the Hour be?' The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'What have you prepared for it?' The man said, 'nothing, except that I love Allah and His Apostle The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, 'You will be with those whom you love.' (Anasؓ continued) We had never been so glad as we were on hearing that saying of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). Therefore, I love the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), Abu Bakr (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) and 'Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), and I hope that I will be with them because of my love for them, though my deeds are not similar to theirs. (Bukhari)

What is the meaning of 'the wives of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) are the mothers of the believers?'

It means that the love and respect of Ummaha-tul-Momineen (امهات المومنين رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم اجمعين) has to be more than the love of the biological mothers of the believers and it is an indication and fulfillment of your love of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم).

It is in Hadith - 'The (believing) mother is in the middle of the doors of Paradise.' (Ahmed)

It is in Hadith - The Paradise is under the feet of (the believing) mothers. (Nasai)

Similarly, love of other members of the Ahle Bait-e-At haar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم اجمعين), is a requirement and an indication and fulfillment of your love of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم).

It is in Hadith - Safiyyah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) the daughter of Shaybah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrates that Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) said that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) came out one morning wearing a cloak which had camel saddles woven on to it with black wool. Then Hasan Ibn Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) came and the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) took him under the cloak, then Husain (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) came and entered beneath it with the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). Then Fatimah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) came and the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) took her under the cloak. Next Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) came and the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) also included him beneath it. Then the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) recited the verse - إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا [ O' members of the (Prophet’s ﷺ) family (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم اجمعين), Allah only intends to keep (the causes of) evil away from you and purify you completely. (al-Ahzaab - 33).

References - (i) Muslim, (ii) Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, (iii) Ahmad, (iv) Musnad Ibn Rahawayh, (v) Al-Mustadrak, al-Hakim, (vi) Sunan al-Kubra, Baihaqi, (vii) Tafseer-e-Tabari, (viii) Maalim-ut-Tanzil, Baghawi, etc.

It is in Hadith Umar bin Abi Salamah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) who was brought up by the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) narrates that when the verse - إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا [ O' members of the (Prophet’s ﷺ) family (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم اجمعين), Allah only intends to keep (the causes of) evil away from you and purify you completely.] (al-Ahzaab - 33) was revealed to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) at the home of Ummul Momineen Umm Salamah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا), he called Fatimah, Hasan and Husain (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم) and covered them with a cloak. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) also covered Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) who was behind him and then said, 'Oh Allah! These are my Ahle Baith so keep impurity away from them and totally purify them.

References - (i) Tirmidhi, (ii) Ahmad, (iii) Bayhaqi, (iv) Hakim, (v) Tabarani, etc.

The above Ahadith confirm that, in addition to Ummaha-tul-Momineen, Hadhrat Ali, Fatima, Hassan and Hussain (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم اجمعين) are included in the Prophet's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) household.

There are some references that include, Aqil, Jafar, Abbas and Salman Farsi (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم) within the purview of the household of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم).

You cannot claim your love for Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) while you accuse, abuse or blame any member of Prophet's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) house hold like the way Shias, Salafis, Deobandis, Ahle-Hadith, Kharijis and their like minded groups do.

Shias wrongfully claim that Ummaha-tul-Momineen (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم) are not part of the Prophet's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) household. This kind of belief is denial of Quranic verses and Ahadith.

The above verse is also translated as ' ‘I do not want anything from you except to be kind to me for my Kinship with you.’

It is in Hadith - Ibn Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that he was asked about the verse - [Except your love for my close relatives (Ahl-e-Bait - رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم اجمعين).] (Ash-Shura - 23), Sa`id bin Zubair (who was present there) said, it means here (to show what is due for) the relatives of Muhammad On that Ibn Abbas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) said, you have hurried in giving the answer! There was no branch of the tribe of Quraish, but the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) had relatives therein. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, ‘I do not want anything from you except to be kind to me for my Kinship with you.’ (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Bk 65, Hadith # 340)

42:24 Do they claim that he, (the Prophet  ﷺ), has fabricated a lie about Allah? (No, their claim is false as you, O' Prophet  ﷺ are sent to save people from the blazing fire).  If Allah wants, He can place a (shining) seal (for Hidaya of the disbelievers) on your heart (to reflect the truth of your message on their hearts) as Allah wipes out the absurd and the false and  validates the truth from His command.  Indeed, He is Aware of everything buried in the chest (of people).

42:25 He is the One Who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons (their) sins. And He knows whatever you (all) do.

42:26 He answers the prayers of those who believe and do good deeds and gives them even more out of His bounty. As for the unbelievers, they shall have severe punishment.

42:27 Were Allah to expand the provision to His servants (en masse), they would have committed tyranny on earth. But He sends down whatever He wills in due measures. He is, well Acquainted and Fully Aware of His servants.

42:28 It is He Who sends down rain even after they have lost all hope, and spreads His Mercy.   He Alone is the Praiseworthy Guardian.

42:29 Among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the living creatures that He has spread in both of them.  And He is capable of gathering them all together whenever He wants.

42:30 Whatever afflictions befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. He pardons from much (of your misdeeds).

42:31 You can never escape (from Him) on earth, nor do you have any protector or helper besides Allah.

42:32 And among His signs are (huge) ships, like hills (floating) in the sea.

42:33 If He wills, He can cause the wind to settle and then they would become motionless on the back (of the sea).  Surely, in this example there are signs for everyone (who is) patient and grateful.

42:34 Or He may destroy them (by drowning) because of that which their people have earned. He pardons much (of their evil deeds).

42:35 Those who dispute about Our revelations should know that there is no escape for them.

42:36 Whatever you have been given is only the provision of this life. But that which is with Allah is better and more enduring for those who believe and trust in their Lord;

42:37 (and) avoid major sins and shameful deeds, (and) forgive (others), even when they are angry;

42:38 who respond to their Lord, establish prayer, conduct their affairs by mutual consultation, and donate from what We have provided them;

42:39 and those who, when tyranny strikes them, they defend themselves (against the tyrannical people).

42:40 The retribution for a bad deed is one like it, but whoever forgives and makes peace will have his reward with Allah. He certainly does not like those who do wrong.

42:41 Those who avenge themselves when wronged cannot be blamed.

42:42 Blame lies on those who wrong others and transgress in the land without any justification. Those will have a painful punishment.

42:43 But, to bear patiently and forgive is indeed an (admirable) act of courage, and a virtue.

42:44 Whomever Allah leads astray has no guardian apart from Him. You will see the wrongdoers, when they sight the punishment, saying, 'Is there any way for a retreat?'

42:45 As they are exposed to the Fire, you will see them humbled from humiliation, glancing around covertly. While those who believed will say, 'The losers are those who lost themselves and their kin on the Day of Resurrection.' Verily, the unjust are in an lasting punishment.

42:46 They will have no protectors to help them against Allah. And whoever Allah leaves to stray, for them there is no way.

42:47 Accept the command of your Lord before there comes a Day from Allah that cannot be averted.  On that Day there shall be no shelter for you, and none can change your predicament.

42:48 But if they turn away, We did not send you (O' Prophet ﷺ) as their guardian. Your only responsibility is to deliver the message. When We let a man taste Our mercy, he rejoices in it; but if harm afflicts him for what his hands have done, then man turns to denial.

42:49 To Allah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He creates whatsoever He wills, bestows daughters on whosoever He will, and gives sons to whom He choose.

42:50 or grants both, sons and daughters, (to whoever He wills), and leaves whoever He wills infertile. He is indeed All Knowing, Omnipotent.

42:51 It is not (possible) to any human being that Allah should speak (directly) unless (it be) by inspiration, or from behind a veil, or by sending an Apostle to reveal by His permission what He wills.  Surely, He is High and Wise.

42:52 And so We have sent to you (O' Prophet  ﷺ) a Soul (Hadhrat Jibreel  عليه السلام) by Our command (with revelations). You did not know of (this) Book and faith (before).  But We have made it a light, by which We guide whoever We will of Our servants. And you are truly leading (all) to the Straight Path,

42:53 the path of Allah, to Whom belong everything in the heaven and on earth! Beware, all matters come before Allah (for decision).

Ornaments of Gold

Az-Zukhruf | Sura # 43 | 89 verses | Makkan

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

حم١

43:1 Ha-meem

'Ha-meem' is known as ‘Solemn Verse' (Ayat-e-Muqatta'at - آیتِ مقطعات).

Fourteen Arabic alphabets have been used, in varied combinations, in 14 ‘Solemn Verses' (Ayaat-e-Muqatta'at - آیاتِ مقطعات) in the form of initials of 29 Chapters (سورة) of holy Quran. Ha-meem ( حم ) is one of them.

43:2 (I swear) By the manifest book.

43:3 Indeed, We have revealed this Quran in the Arabic language, so you may understand (its meanings).

43:4 It certainly comes from the mother of the books with Us, (The knowledge of Allah - علمِ الهي). It (the Quran) is exalted and full of wisdom.

43:5 (O' People), Should we then withdraw the Reminder from you, (just) because you are excessive in your rejection?

43:6 And how many prophets have We sent among the previous people?

43:7 And they used to ridicule every one of them.

43:8 We destroyed people mightier than these (Makkan polytheists), and their example has gone before.

43:9 If you ask them (O Prophet ﷺ) who created the heavens and the earth, they will certainly say, '(Allah) the Almighty, All Knowing.'

43:10 He, who made the earth a bed for you, and laid out tracks upon it so that you may find the way;

43:11 and Who sends down water (rain) from the sky in due measure. Then We revive a dead land from it, and similarly you will be brought out (from the dead again),

43:12 and (He is the One) Who created all (things in) pairs, and made for you ships and animals to ride,

43:13 in order that you may mount firmly on their backs, and then may remember the Favor of your Lord when you mount on them, and say : 'Glory to Allah who has subjected this to us, and we could never have the ability for it (by our efforts),

43:14 And surely to our Lord we will (all) return.'

It is important supplication. Everyone of us should recites (سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ - وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنْقَلِبُونَ ) whenever we travels using any kind of transport, like, plane, train, car or ship or while riding on horses or camels, etc.

43:15 Yet in spite of recognizing all this, they have associated some of His servants in His divinity! Surely mankind is clearly ungrateful.

43:16 Or has He taken daughters out of what He has created, and has He selected for you sons?

Before the advent of Islam, Pagan Arabs believed Angels to be the daughters of Allah.

43:17 Yet when news of (the birth of a daughter), they had reserved for the Most Compassionate (Allah), comes to one of them, his face is blackened (with shame), and he grieves in silence inwardly.

43:18 (You associate with Allah) the offspring that is brought up adorned with jewelry, and can not help in fighting (with the enemy).

43:19 Still they have labelled the angels, who are servants of the Most Compassionate (Allah) as females. Did they witness their creation? Their statement will be recorded, and they will be questioned!

43:20 They also say : 'If the Most Compassionate (Allah) had so willed, we would not have worshiped them (deities/idols/angels).' They have no knowledge whatsoever about it.  Indeed, they only judge and speak according to their own fancies and interests.

43:21 Or have We given them a Book prior to this one (the Quran), to which they are adhering?

43:22 In fact, they say, 'We found our forefathers following a (particular) way, and we are following in their footsteps.'

43:23 Similarly, every time We sent someone (a prophet) before you to a town to warn them, those corrupted by abundance (of provisions) would say, 'We found our fathers following this path, and we are following in their footsteps.'

43:24 Each Warner (prophet) asked : 'What if I bring you better guidance than that which your forefathers practiced?' But they replied : 'Well! We reject the faith with which you have been sent.'

43:25 Thus, We punished them;  see then what was the end of those who disbelieved?

43:26 (Remember) when Ibrahim (عليه السلام) said to (the brother of) his father and his people : 'Surely, I renounce (deities) that you worship,

43:27   except Him (alone) who created me,  for He will guide me the right path.'

43:28 And he left this enduring declaration among his descendants, so they may (always) turn back (to Allah).

43:29 Yes, I gave the good things of this life to these (Makkans) and their (fore) fathers, till there came to them the truth (the Quran) and an Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)  making things clear.

43:30 But now when the truth has come to them, they say : 'This is magic and we do not believe it.'

43:31 And they said : 'Why is this Quran not sent down to some great man of the two towns (Makkah and Taif)?'

The great men in their view were the Chiefs of Makkan and Taif Idolators.

43:32 Do they dispense the mercy of your Lord? We (alone) distribute among them the means of livelihood in the life of this world. We elevate the status of some of them over others. So that some of them may employ the services of others. (But) the blessings of your Lord are better than the wealth they amass.

43:33 (Allah's Mercy is such that he provides in abundance to whoever He likes.) And were it not that all mankind might become one nation of unbelievers, We would have given those, who disbelieve in the Most Compassionate (Allah), such houses, whose roofs and stairways by which they go to upper chambers, all made with silver,

43:34 and doors (of silver) for their houses and thrones (of silver) on which they recline,

43:35 and gold ornaments. But all that,  is merely the possessions of this life, while the Hereafter with your Lord is for those who are mindful of Him.

43:36 Whoever overlooks the remembrance of the Most Compassionate, We assign him a devil, as a companion.

43:37 They hinder them from the path, though they think they are guided (and are on the right path).

43:38 Till, when such one comes to Us (on the Day of Judgment), he says (to his Satan) : 'I wish that between me and you were the distance of the two Easts (or the East and West), you were an evil companion!'

43:39 (It will be said to them) : 'It will not profit you this Day as you already did wrong, and both of you will be sharing the punishment.'

43:40 Can you make the deaf hear, or guide the blind and whoever is clearly misguided?

43:41 Even if We take you away (from this world), We will surely inflict punishment upon them.

43:42 Or if We show you what We threaten them with, We certainly have full power over them.

43:43 So hold fast to what has been revealed to you. You are truly on the right path.

43:44 Surely this (Quran) is a glory for you and your people. And you will (all) be questioned (about it).

43:45 Ask the people, to whom We had sent Our Apostles prior to you. 'Did We assign any god to be worshiped, other than the Most Compassionate (Allah)'?

43:46 We sent Musa (عليه السلام) with Our signs to the Pharaoh and his nobles. He said : 'I have been sent by the Lord of all the worlds.'

43:47 When he showed them Our signs, they laughed at those signs,

43:48 although every sign We showed them was greater than the one before. Ultimately, We seized them with torment so that they might return (to the Right Path).

43:49 (Whenever a calamity struck them), they said to Musa (عليه السلام), 'O you magician! Since He has a pact with you, would you call your Lord (and seek relief) for us? (If you do), we would surely accept guidance.'

43:50 But when We lifted the punishment from them, they broke their word.

43:51 One day Pharaoh made a proclamation among his people : 'O my people! Is not the kingdom of Egypt mine? Are not these rivers flowing beneath me? Can you not see?

43:52 Or am I not better than this one (Musa  عليه السلام), who is despicable and can hardly express himself clearly?

43:53 Why were then no bracelets of gold shed upon him from above, or angels sent down as a escorts with him?"

43:54 Thus did he incite his people and they obeyed him; surely they were a nation of transgressors.

43:55 At last when they invited Our Wrath,  they got inflicted with  a severe retribution and were all drowned,

43:56 And We made them an example and a lesson for future generations.

43:57 And when Isa Ibn Maryam (عليه السلام) is quoted as an example, behold! Your people make a hue and cry about it,

Why Makkan Pagans used to make hue and cry when the name of Prophet Isa Ibn Maryam (عليه السلام) was mentioned in front of them?

It is because the Makkan Pagans had seen that Christians made an idol of Isa (عليه السلام), placed it in their churches and used to worship him as the son of God. They used to ask the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), what is the difference between the idol worshiped by Christians and our Idols? As a matter of fact, their idols were good looking than the idol of Isa (عليه السلام) worshiped by the Christians.

43:58 They say, 'Are our gods better or is he (Isa  عليه السلام)? They raise such questions merely to argue and bicker.  Indeed, they are a quarrelsome and hostile people!

43:59 He (Isa  عليه السلام) was only a servant We showed favor to, and made as an example for the Children of Israel.

43:60 (We created Isa عليه السلام without a father, and) if We want We can create from you (the human beings) a generation of angels to  succeed you on earth.

43:61 And his (second) coming is truly a sign for the Hour. So have no doubt about it, and follow me. This is the Straight Path.

43:62 Let not Satan mislead you, for he is your open enemy.

43:63 When Isa (عليه السلام) came with clear proofs, he declared, 'I have come to you with wisdom, and to clarify to you some of what you differ about.   So fear Allah, and obey me.'

43:64 'Surely Allah (alone) is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him (alone). This is the Straight Path.'

43:65 But various groups (of Israelis) differed among themselves. So woe to the wrongdoers (who ascribe things to Isa عليه السلام  that are not true) from the punishment of the painful Day (of Resurrection).

43:66 Are they waiting (for any thing) but the Hour (of Doom) which would descend upon them suddenly, and catch them unawares?

43:67 All friends on that day would become each other's enemies, except the righteous ones.

43:68   'O My Servants (believers), today you have nothing to fear or to grieve;

43:69 (those) who believed in Our signs and are Muslims,

43:70 'enter Paradise, you and your spouses with joy.'

43:71 There they shall be served with golden dishes and golden goblets, and they shall have everything that their Nufoos desire and all that their eyes can delight in.  It will be said to them: 'Now you shall abide therein forever.'

43:72 This is the Paradise which you have made to inherit because of your good deeds which you used to do (in the world),

43:73 (In paradise) there are plenty of (different kinds of) fruits for you to eat.

43:74 But the criminals will abide in the punishment of Hell, forever.

43:75 There is no relief for them as they will remain in utter despair.

43:76 We did not wrong them; rather, it is they who were the wrongdoers.

43:77 They will cry : 'O Maalik (the keeper of Hell)! Let your Lord put an end to us.'  But he will say, 'Nay! You are going to live (here) forever.'

43:78 (O' Makkan Pagans), Certainly We have brought you the Truth, but most of you are averse to the Truth.

43:79 Or have they plotted some plan (against you O' Prophet ﷺ )? Then We too are planning (to punish them).

43:80 Or do they think that We do not hear their (evil) thoughts and secret talks? Yes (We do)! And Our messenger-angels are in their presence, recording (it all).

43:81 Say, 'If the Most Compassionate (Lord) had a son, I would be the first to worship him.'

43:82 Exalted is the Lord of the heavens and the earth in His glory, Lord of the Throne, absolutely above what they ascribe to Him.

43:83 So (O' Prophet  ﷺ) leave them to converse vainly and amuse themselves until they meet their Day which they are promised.

43:84 It is He (Allah) Who is God in the heavens and God on earth; He is the All Wise, the All Knowledgeable.

43:85 And blessed be He to whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is in between them.  He (alone) has the knowledge of the Hour (of judgment), and to Whom you all will be returned.

43:86 And those whom they worship besides Allah do not have the right of intercession.  The right of intercession is only for those who testify to the Truth and have knowledge.

The above verse clarifies the difference between Prophets, Islamic dignitaries, Awliya Allah and that of Idols worshiped by idolators.

The idols, deities and false gods worshiped by idolators expecting these idols to intercede for them in front of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is a wrong belief.

However, the prophets, Awliya Allah and Islamic dignitaries are the ones who are assigned with the responsibility of intercession of people before Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) in this world in and Hereafter.

It is in Quran - إِنَّمَا وَلِيُّكُمُ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا الَّذِينَ يُقِيمُونَ الصَّلَاةَ وَيُؤْتُونَ الزَّكَاةَ وَهُمْ رَاكِعُونَ [ Your guardian (or solver of grievances) can only be Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle ( صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم ) and those who believe, who establish Salah, and pay Zakat and bow down (in prayer.] (Al-Maida - 55)

It is in Quran - يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَابْتَغُوا إِلَيْهِ الْوَسِيلَةَ وَجَاهِدُوا فِي سَبِيلِهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ [ O' You who belief, be mindful of Allah and fear the consequence of disobeying Him and seek the means of approach to Him and strive earnestly in His path that you may succeed] (Al-Ma'ida - 35).

Kharijis, Wahhabis, Salafies, Deobandis and their like minded groups impose Quranic verses meant for idolators on prophets and Awliya Allah and stop people from visiting their pious graves for Barakah.

It is in Hadith - Abdullah bin Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) considered the Khawarij (Salafis, Deobandis, Ikhwan and like minded groups) the worst of Allah's creation, and said, 'Verily they take the verses that were revealed about unbelievers and use them against the believers. (Bukhari)

43:87 If you ask them who created them, they will answer : 'Allah'.   How then can they turn away?

43:88   And by his (the Apostle’s  ﷺ) saying : ‘O My Lord, surely, they are a people who (somehow) do not tend to believe.'

The meaning of the above verse is, the conduct of the people clearly shows, as the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) rightly says, that these (Polytheists) are adamant not to accept the faith as it is apparent from their own admission.

43:89   So bear with them and respond with peace.  They will soon come to know (the truth).

The Smoke

Ad-Dukhaan | Sura # 44 | 59 verses | Makkan

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

حم١

44:1 Ha-meem

'Ha-meem' is known as ‘Solemn Verse' (Ayat-e-Muqatta'at - آیتِ مقطعات).

Fourteen Arabic alphabets have been used, in varied combinations, in 14 ‘Solemn Verses' (Ayaat-e-Muqatta'at - آیاتِ مقطعات) in the form of initials of 29 Chapters (سورة) of holy Quran. Ha-meem ( حم ) is one of them.

44:2 (I swear) by the manifest book.

44:3 Indeed, We revealed it on a blessed night.   Surely,  We are ever warning (to mankind).

44:4 On that night every wise command is made clear.

The are two nights mentioned in the Quran, as follows:

THE BLESSED NIGHT

(1) It is in Quran إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنْذِرِينَ - فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ [ Indeed, We revealed it on a blessed night - Indeed, We are ever warning (to mankind). On that night every wise command is made clear.] (Ad-Dukhan - 3-4).

THE NIGHT OF QADR

(2) It is in Quran - إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ - وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ - لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍ [ Surely We revealed it on the Night of Power/Decree. And What will convey to you what the Night of Power is! The Night of Power is better than thousand months. ] (Al-Qadr - 1-3)

We have briefly discussed below about these nights.

(a) There is no clear and categorical evidence in Quran and Ahadith that tells us that both these nights are one and the same.

(b)There are many authentic Ahadith identifying a blessed night falling in the middle of Sha'ban and the other falling in the end of Ramadhan.

(c) When we read the above verses of Quran, it looks that the 'Blessed Night' (لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَارَكَةٍ) falling in mid-Sha'aban is the night when Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) commands are made clear (in the sublime world - عالمِ عُلوي). Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is warning the mankind that decisions are taken about them for the following year and they need to be careful and supplicate for pardon for the sins committed by them in the previous years.

(d)The Night of Qadr (لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ) is a glad tiding / good news to the human beings that this Night is better than one thousand months (more than 33 years) and it is an opportunity for mankind to make sure that they are benefited from it.

(e) The significance of both these nights is different from each other and both are important nights in Islamic Calendar. The Common feature of both these nights is, the descent of Quran.

It is important to note that Quran's descent was gradual, in stages. To understand this issue, read the following Quranic verse one more time.

Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) says - فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ [ On this night every wise command is made clear.] (Ad-Dukhan - 4).

This verse clarifies that on the night (which falls on mid-Sha'baan), every divine command intended for the following year is made clear (to the Sublime World - عالمِ عُلوي). This shows that on the 'Blessed Night' (ليلة البراءة) the command for the descent of Quran was given and made known to the Sublime World. This fact is described in this verse - إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنْذِرِينَ [ Indeed, We revealed it on a blessed night. Indeed, We are ever warning (to mankind).] (Ad-Dukhan - 3).

Thus, the divine command was the beginning of the descent of Quran. It was the first stage of the descent of Quran.

(f) Then Quran was descended from the Preserved Tablet (لوحِ محفوظ) to the first sky on the 'Night of Power/Decree' (ليلة القدر) in the month of Ramadhan. This was the second stage of the descent of Quran.

(g) Then, from the first sky, Quran was revealed, gradually, in stages, to Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) over a period of 23 years. This was the third and final stage of Quran's descent.

The blessed night' (لَيْلَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ) mentioned in the above verses (Ad-Dukhaan 3&4) is the night which falls on mid-Sha'aban (لَيْلَةِ النِّصْفِ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ). This is also known as 'Night of Salvation' (ليلة البراءة) because, on this night every wise command of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is made clear and he looks upon His servants with mercy; listens to their supplications and forgives them. This night is proved from continuous narrations (احادیثِ متواتر) from many Sahaba and Taba'een in authentic books of Ahadith. We have provided below some of these Ahadith.

(i) Imam Tirmidhi and Imam Ibn Maja established Chapters in their Ahadith books, titled بَاب مَا جَاءَ فِي لَيْلَةِ النِّصْفِ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ [ What was known about the Middle Night of Sha'aban]. Many Ahadith have been mentioned under these chapters.

Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ الله تعالی عنها) said - 'One night, I did not find the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) in his bed, so I went out searching for him and found him at al-Baqi (Muslim Graveyard in Madina) with his head raised towards the sky. (When he realized that I followed him to Baqi), He said : 'O Aisha (رضئ الله تعالی عنها) were you afraid that Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) would treat you unfairly?' I said, 'No, I thought you had gone to spend the night with one of your (other) wives' He said : 'Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) descends to the lowest heaven on the night of mid-Sha'ban and forgives more people than the number of hairs on the hides of the sheep of Bani Kalb." (Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, Ahmed)

(ii) It is in Hadith Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ الله تعالی عنها) reports, 'the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) stood up in prayer during part of the night and made his prostration so lengthy that I thought his soul had been taken back. When I saw this I got up and went to move his big toe, whereupon he moved, so I drew back. When he raised his head from prostration and finished praying, he said : 'O A'isha (رضئ الله تعالی عنها), O strikingly beautiful (حُميرا)! Did you think that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) had broken his agreement with you?' She replied : 'No, by Allah, O'Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), but I thought that your soul had been taken back because you stayed in prostration for so long.' He said : 'Do you know what night is this?' She said : 'Allah and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) know best.' He said : 'This is the night of mid-Sha`ban! Verily Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) looks at His servants on the night of mid-Sha`ban, and forgives those who ask forgiveness, and He bestows mercy on those who ask mercy' (Thirmidhi, Ahmed, Bazzar, Baihaqi)

(iii) عن أبي بكر الصديق عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ، قال : « ينزل الله إلى السماء الدنيا ليلة النصف من شعبان فيغفر لكل شيء إلا رجل مشرك أو في قلبه شحناء [ Abu Bakr Siddique (رضئ الله تعالی عنه) reported that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) looks upon His creatures on the night of mid-Sha'ban and forgives everyone except the polytheist and the one who is jealous about others in his heart.] (Baihaqi, Bazzar, Daylami, Al-Haitami, Majmua Zawaid, etc. )

(iv) عن أبي هريرة قال : قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا كان ليلة النصف من شعبان يغفر الله لعباده إلا لمشرك أو مشاحن [ Abu Huraira (رضئ الله تعالی عنه) reported that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) looks upon His servants on the night of mid-Sha'ban and forgives everyone except the polytheist and the Wrangler.] (Musnad al-Bazzar, Al-Haitami, Majmua Zawaid, etc. )

It is important that we stay awake during the nights (Lailatul Bara'a and Lailatul Qadr) and spend time in Salah, Zikr and repentance. It is expected that we will receive a lot of bounties from Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) as an offering (sadaqa) of the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم).

Similarly, it is important to stay awake on the night of Me'raj-un-Nabi (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and spend time in the remembrance of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) as a gratitude for making us the Ummati of the the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم).

It is in Hadith - Abu Huraira (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, "Whoever establishes the prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's rewards then all his past sins will be forgiven.' (Bukhari, Book 2, Hadith # 28)

44:5 This command is from Us, as we wanted to send Our commandments (to you),

44:6 as a mercy from your Lord! He is indeed, the All Hearing,  All Knowing!

44:7 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe.

44:8 There is no god but He, Who gives life and death.  He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers.

44:9 In fact, they are in doubt, amusing themselves.

44:10 So watch out for the Day when the sky will bring visible smoke,

It is in Hadith - Abdullah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that 5 things have passed, (i) the smoke, (ii) the defeat of the Romans, (iii) the splitting of the moon, (iv) the defeat of the infidels in the battle of Badr (الْبَطْشَةُ), and (v) the punishment (اللِّزَامُ‏). (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Bk 65, Hadith # 342)

It is in Hadith - Abdullah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the ‘smoke’ was because, when the Quraish refused to obey the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), he asked Allah to afflict them with years of famine like those of Yusuf (عليه السلام). So, they were stricken with famine and fatigue, so much so that they ate even bones. A man would look towards the sky and imagine seeing something like smoke between him and the sky because of extreme fatigue. So, Allah revealed – [So watch out for the Day when the sky will bring visible smoke, enveloping all people; 'this is a painful punishment.'] (Ad-Dukhaan:10-11) Then someone (Abu Sufyan) came to Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and said, ‘O Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), invoke Allah to send rain for the tribes of Mudar for they are on the verge of destruction.’ On that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said (astonishingly), ‘shall I invoke Allah for the tribes of Mudar? Verily, you are a brave man!’ But the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) prayed for rain, and it rained for them. Then the verse was revealed – [ Indeed, We will remove (that) punishment (famine) for a while, but you (Makkans) will return (to disbelief again). (Ad-Dukhaan - 15). When the famine was over and they restored prosperity and welfare, they reverted to their ways of heathenism whereupon Allah revealed – [(Then) on the Day We will deal (with you) severely (and) you will be subjected to a harsh retribution.] (Ad-Dukhaan - 16). The narrator said, ‘that was the day of the Battle of Badr.’ (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Bk 65, Hadith # 343)

44:11 enveloping all people; 'this is a painful punishment.'

44:12 (Then people will say), 'Our Lord, lift the punishment from us, we now believe.'

44:13 But how can the acceptance of Our Message at that time be beneficial to them?  The Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), who makes the things clear, has already come to them.

44:14 Yet they deny him, saying : 'He is insane and is  taught by others!'

44:15 Indeed, We will remove (that) punishment (famine) for a while, but you (Makkans) will return (to disbelief again).

44:16 (Then) on the Day We will deal (with you)  severely (and) you will be subjected to a harsh  retribution.

44:17 Indeed, before them, We tested Pharaoh’s people. A noble Apostle (Musa  عليه السلام) came to them,

44:18 (Saying) 'Hand over the servants of Allah (the children of Israel) to me.  I am truly a trustworthy Apostle to you.

44:19 'Do not exceed (the bounds), and do not deem yourselves exalted before Allah. In fact, I have brought you the clear proofs.'

44:20 And indeed, I seek refuge with my Lord and your Lord so you do not (plot for) killing me.'

44:21 'If you do not believe me, then keep away from me.'

The above verses clarify that Pharaoh and his people plotted to kill Musa (عليه السلام) and they were about the execute their plan.

44:22 He then called out to his Lord that these were evil people.

44:23 (Then Allah responded), 'Set forth with My servants (the children of Israel) at night, surely you will be pursued.

44:24 'And (when you have crossed the sea with your people), leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Surely, they are an army that is doomed to be drowned.'

44:25 How many gardens and springs did they (Pharaoh’s people) leave behind,

44:26 as well as  crops and splendid residences,

44:27 and means of luxury and comfort which they used to enjoy!

44:28 So it was. And We awarded it (all) to another people.

44:29 And neither the heavens and the earth did weep for them, nor were they given a respite.

44:30 So We saved the children of Israel from degrading suffering,

44:31 from Pharaoh. He was truly an arrogant transgressor.

44:32 And We chose them (Israelis) knowingly over all people (at that time).

44:33 And We showed them signs in which there was a clear test.

44:34 As to these (people of Quraish) who say,

44:35 'there is nothing beyond our first death, and we will never be resurrected.'

44:36 (They say) 'Bring (back) our forefathers, if what you say is true.'

44:37 Are they better than the people of Tubba, and those who had lived before them, whom We destroyed as they were sinners?

The people of Tubba were a branch of the Sabaeans, who ruled Saba around 300 AD. They were well known people of Southern Arabia for their prosperity and riches.

Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is saying that many people/nations were destroyed earlier in spite of their worldly prowess and prosperity because they were transgressors. The Makkan Pagans are nowhere near them in prosperity. If they think that they will not be destroyed because of their material wealth, they should look at what happened to the previous nations when they transgressed.

44:38 We did not create the heavens and the earth and everything between them as a game.

44:39 We have not created them but (to reveal) the truth, but most of them don’t know.

44:40 The Day of Judgement is your promised day of meeting,

44:41 the Day when a friend will not be of any use to his friend, nor will they be helped,

44:42 except for him on whom Allah has Mercy. Indeed He is the Almighty, Most Merciful.

44:43 Surely (the fruit of) the tree of Zaqqûm,

44:44 will be food for the sinner.

44:45 Like molten brass; it will boil in their bellies,

44:46 as does boiling water.

44:47 (It will be said),  'Seize them and drag them into the depths of the Hellfire.'

44:48 'Then pour over their heads the torment of boiling water.'

44:49 (It will be said), 'Taste (this)! Surely, you were (claiming to be) the mighty, the noble!

44:50 'This is what you doubted.'

44:51 Indeed, the righteous will be in a secure place,

44:52 In the midst of gardens and of springs,

44:53 dressed in fine silk and rich brocade, facing one another.

44:54 Thus shall it be! And We shall wed them to the fair females (Hooris) with big beautiful eyes!

44:55 (There, in full peace), they shall call for every kind of fruit;

44:56 they will never taste death in it except the first death (of this world), and He will save them from the punishment of the blazing fire,

44:57 as a grace from your Lord! That will be the supreme success!

44:58 Surely,  We have made this Quran easy (to understand) by revealing in your own language so that they may take heed.

44:59 (If they do not accept the admonition) then wait; surely they too are waiting.

Crouching

Al-Jaathiya | Sura # 45 | 37 verses | Makkan

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

حم١

45:1 Ha-meem

'Ha-meem' is known as ‘Solemn Verse' (Ayat-e-Muqatta'at - آیتِ مقطعات).

Fourteen Arabic alphabets have been used, in varied combinations, in 14 ‘Solemn Verses' (Ayaat-e-Muqatta'at - آیاتِ مقطعات) in the form of initials of 29 Chapters (سورة) of holy Quran. Ha-meem ( حم ) is one of them.

45:2 The revelation of this Book (the Quran) is from Allah, the Almighty, the Wise.

45:3 Surely, in  the heavens and the earth there are signs for the believers.

45:4 In your own creation (as human beings) and that of (other) moving creatures which He has scattered (throughout the earth), there are signs for people who have faith,

45:5 And (in) the alternation of the day and the night, the provision sent down from the skies by Allah, reviving the earth after its death, and the shifting of the winds, are signs for people who understand.

45:6 These are the revelations of Allah, which We recite to you with truth. If they deny Allah and His revelations, then what message will they believe in?

45:7 Woe to every sinful liar.

45:8 (Misery to) the one who hears the verses of Allah being recited before him, yet acts like he has not heard them.  Arrogantly, he insists (upon his own notions).  To such a person, give the news of an agonizing torment.

45:9 And when he does learn about some of Our verses, he ridicules them. Such people will have a humiliating punishment.

45:10 Hell awaits them. Nothing they have earned will be of any use to them, nor will those (idols) they have adopted as protectors instead of Allah. They will have a grave punishment.

45:11 This is guidance. Those who deny the revelations of their Lord will suffer a dreadful punishment.

45:12 It is Allah who subjected the ocean for you so that ships may sail through it by His command, and you may seek His bounty, and may perhaps be grateful.

45:13 And has subjected to you all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth; all from Him.  Surely, there are signs for those people who reflect.

45:14 (O' Prophet  ﷺ), tell the believers to forgive those who do not fear Allah’s days (of torment), so that He will reward each group for what they used to commit.

It is required to convey the message of truth to the disbelievers. If they do not believe and reject the faith and show fearlessness of the life after death or the day of Resurrection, the only course of action is to ignore and forgive them for their insistence on disbelieve, leaving it to Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) who will recompense each group as per their deeds.

45:15 Whoever does a good deed, it is for his own self; and whoever does evil, it is against his (own self). Then you (all) will be made to return to your Lord.

45:16 Indeed, We gave the Children of Israel the Scripture, wisdom, and prophet-hood; granted them good lawful provisions; and favored them above the others (earlier).

45:17 And We gave them clear proofs in the matter (of religion). And they did not differ except after knowledge had come to them out of jealousy and animosity (between various groups) among them. Indeed, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ.

45:18 Now We have put you (O' believers) on the Right Path  concerning the religion (of Islam), so follow it, and do not yield to the desires of ignorant people;

45:19 They shall not be able to help you (O' believers) a bit against Allah. Indeed, the evildoers are each other´s friends and patrons, and Allah is the friend of the righteous.

45:20 This (Quran) is an insight for all mankind, the source of guidance and grace for the nation who believes with certainty.

45:21 Or do those evil doers think that We shall make them equal with those who believe and do righteous deeds, in their present life and after their death? Worst is the judgment that they make!

45:22 Allah has created the heavens and the earth to manifest the truth, and to reward each one according to its deeds, and none of them shall be wronged.

45:23 Have you seen (O Prophet  ﷺ) those who have taken their own desires as their god? (And so) Allah left them to stray knowingly, sealed their hearing and hearts, and placed a cover on their sight. Who then can guide them after Allah? Will you (all) not then be mindful?

45:24 And they argue, 'There is nothing beyond our worldly life. We die; others are born. And nothing destroys us but (the passage of) time.'  Yet they have no knowledge (in support) of this (claim). They only speculate.

45:25 When Our clear revelations are recited to them, they have no other argument but to say, 'Bring our forefathers back, if what you say is true!'

45:26 Say, 'Allah gives you life, and then He gives you death; and again, He will assemble you on the day of resurrection. No doubt about it! But most people do not know.'

45:27 To Allah belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth. On that Day when the Hour of Judgment will be established, those who have denied His revelations shall be doomed to loss.

45:28 And you will see every nation humbled to its knees. Each nation will be called to its Record (of deeds). (It will be said) : 'This Day you shall be recompensed for what you used to do.'

45:29 (It will be said to them) 'This is Our record (prepared for you), it speaks about you in Truth. We were recording what You have been doing.'

45:30 As for those who have faith and do righteous deeds, their Lord will admit them into His mercy. That is the manifest success!

45:31 But as for those who disbelieved (it will be said to them) : 'Were not Our Revelations recited to you?  But you were proud and became a nation of criminals.'

45:32 When it was said (to you O' disbelievers), 'the promise of Allah is true and the Hour of Judgment is sure to come, you used to say, We don’t know what the Hour of Judgment is : we think it is just a conjecture, we are not convinced.'

45:33 The evil of their deeds will  become apparent to them (on the day of Judgement). That, which they (now) ridicule, (will come back to haunt them and) will surround them.

45:34 ( It will be said (to them) 'Today We will forget you as you forgot the meeting of this Day of yours!   Hell fire will be your home and none will be there to help you.

45:35 This is because you made a mockery of Allah’s revelations, and were deluded by (your) worldly life.'   So (from) that Day (on) they will not be taken out of the Fire, and they will no longer have the opportunity to repent.

45:36 And all praise belongs to the Lord of the heavens, the Lord of the earth and the Lord of the (entire) Cosmos.

45:37 And to Him belongs the Majesty in the heavens and the earth, and He is the Almighty, All Wise.
