Juz 22 -

The Clans

Al-Ahzaab | Sura # 33 | 73 verses | Madinan

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

33:31 Whoever of you  is obedient to Allah and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), and does righteous deeds, We shall grant her double reward, and We have prepared a noble provision for her.

33:32 O' wives of the Prophet (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم اجمعين), you are not like any other women.  If you are mindful (of Allah), then do not be overly soft in speech (with men),  as those with sickness in their hearts  may be tempted, but speak in a moderate tone.

33:33 Settle in your homes, and do not display yourselves as women did in the days of (pre-Islamic) ignorance.  Establish Salah and pay Zakat and obey Allah and His Apostle O' members of the (Prophet’s  ﷺ) family (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم اجمعين), Allah only intends to keep (the causes of) evil away from you and purify you completely.

The above verse is known as the Verse of Purification (آیة تطهیر). Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) says - إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا [ O' members of the (Prophet’s ﷺ) family (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم اجمعين), Allah only intends to keep (the causes of) evil away from you and purify you completely.]

Who are the people referred to as the Prophet's

It is obvious that the Prophet's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) wives and his children are the primary members of his family. Obviously, in the above verse, the command is in relation to all Ummaha-tul-Momineen

(i) It is in Hadith - Safiyyah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) the daughter of Shaybah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrates that Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) said that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) came out one morning wearing a cloak which had camel saddles woven on to it with black wool. Then Hasan Ibn Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) came and the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) took him under the cloak, then Husain (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) came and entered beneath it with the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). Then Fatimah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا) came and the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) took her under the cloak. Next Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) came and the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) also included him beneath it. Then the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) recited the verse - إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا [ O' members of the (Prophet’s ﷺ) family (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم اجمعين), Allah only intends to keep (the causes of) evil away from you and purify you completely. (al-Ahzaab - 33).

References - (i) Muslim, (ii) Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, (iii) Ahmad, (iv) Musnad Ibn Rahawayh, (v) Al-Mustadrak, al-Hakim, (vi) Sunan al-Kubra, Baihaqi, (vii) Tafseer-e-Tabari, (viii) Maalim-ut-Tanzil, Baghawi, etc.

It is in Hadith - Umar bin Abi Salamah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) who was brought up by the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) narrates that when the verse - إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنْكُمُ الرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا [ O' members of the (Prophet’s ﷺ) family (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم اجمعين), Allah only intends to keep (the causes of) evil away from you and purify you completely.] (al-Ahzaab - 33) was revealed to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) at the home of Ummul Momineen Umm Salamah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہا), he called Fatimah, Hasan and Husain (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم) and covered them with a cloak. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) also covered Ali (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) who was behind him and then said, 'Oh Allah! These are my Ahle Baith so keep impurity away from them and totally purify them.

References - (i) Tirmidhi, (ii) Ahmad, (iii) Bayhaqi, (iv) Hakim, (v) Tabarani, etc.

The above Ahadith confirm that, in addition to Ummaha-tul-Momineen, Hadhrat Ali, Fatima, Hassan and Hussain (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم اجمعين) are included in the Prophet's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) household.

There are some references that include, Aqil, Jafar, Abbas and Salman Farsi (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم) within the purview of the household of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم).

Shias wrongfully claim that Ummaha-tul-Momineen (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم) are not part of the Prophet's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) household. This kind of belief is denial of Quranic verses and Ahadith.

33:34 (O' wives of the Prophet ﷺ, Always) remember what is recited in your homes of Allah’s revelations and (statements of Prophetic ﷺ) wisdom.   Surely Allah is Most Subtle, All Aware.

33:35 Surely (for) Muslim men and women, believing men and women, devout men and women, truthful men and women, patient men and women, humble men and women, charitable men and women, fasting men and women;  men and women who guard their chastity, and men and women who remember Allah often, for (all of) them,  Allah has prepared forgiveness and a great reward.

33:36 When Allah and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) have decided a matter, it is not for a believing man or a believing woman, to have a choice about it. Anyone who disobeys Allah and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) is clearly misguided.

33:37 And (remember, O Prophet ﷺ)' when you said to the one for whom Allah has done a favor and you (too) have done a favor, 'Keep your wife and fear Allah,'  while concealing within yourself what Allah was going to reveal. And (so) you were considering the people, whereas Allah was more worthy of your consideration. So when Zaid (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) totally lost interest in (keeping) his wife, We gave her to you in marriage, so that there would be no blame on the believers for marrying the ex-wives of their adopted sons after their divorce. And Allah’s command is totally binding.

33:38 There is no blame on the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) for doing what Allah has ordained for him. That has been the way of Allah with those (prophets) who had gone before.  And the Command of Allah is a decree preordained.

33:39 (That is His way with) those (prophets) who deliver the messages of Allah. They fear only Him and  consider Allah as sufficient for  reckoning.

33:40   Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) is not the father of (any) one of your men, but (he is) the Apostle of Allah and last of the prophets. Allah has knowledge of all things.

From the above verse, the finality of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) as the last prophet to humanity is confirmed. Now, whoever claims prophethood in any manner whatsoever is a liar.

As far as Isa (عليه السلام) is concerned, his advent was before Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). He was raised alive to heaven by Allah In his second coming, he will appear before the end times and confirm the last prophethood of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and will die after completing his lifespan on planet earth.

33:41  O' believers, remember Allah and do it more frequently.

33:42 And glorify him in the morning and evening.

Zikr and its various types have been described in detail in the tafseer of verse 45, Sura al-Ankaboot.

33:43 He is the One Who showers His blessings upon you, and His angels pray for you, so that He may bring you out of darkness and into light. For He is ever Merciful to the believers.

33:44 On the Day they meet Him, their greeting will be, 'Peace (be on you O' believers),' and He has prepared a generous reward for them.

33:45 O' Noble Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), We have sent you as a witness, and a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner.

33:46 and a caller towards Allah by His permission, and as a lamp spreading light.

The above two verses confirm that Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) is the 'Lamp spreading light' (into the whole cosmos).

He is also referred to as 'Witness', a bearer of glad tidings and the one who warns to humanity. A witness is the one who knows about all the physical and spiritual aspects of this Cosmos.

It is in Hadith Jabir Ibn Abdullah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) asked the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), O' Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, tell me the first thing Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) created before all things.' The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : O'Jabir (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ), the first thing Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) created was the light of your Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) from His light. (And everything else was created from that light). (Part of the Hadith).

The above Hadith was narrated by Abdur Razzaq (d. 211 AH) in his Musannaf according to Qastallani in al-Mawahib al-Laduniyya (1:55) and Zarqani in his Sahrh al-Mawahib (1:56 of the Matba'a al-Amira, Edn, Cairo).

Abdur Razzaq is one of the authentic and reliable narrators. Bukhari took 120 and Muslim took 400 Ahadith from him.

Baihaqi narrated the above Hadith with a different wording in 'Dala'il al-Nubawwa, according to Zurqani in his Sharh al-Mawahib (1:56 of the Matba'a al-Amira, Cairo.) Diyarbakri narrated it in 'Tarikh al-Khamis (1-20).

33:47 Give good news to the believers that they will have a great bounty from Allah.

33:48 (And do) not yield to the disbelievers and the hypocrites' (persistent requests). Overlook their annoyance, and put your trust in Allah. For Allah is sufficient as a Trustee of (all) Affairs.

33:49 O' believers! If you marry believing women and then divorce them before you touch them, they will have no waiting period for you to count, so give them a (suitable) compensation, and let them go graciously.

33:50 O' Noble Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), We have made lawful to you,  your wives to whom you have given their due wedding gifts, and those whom your right hand held in trust,  given to you by Allah, and (lawful for you for marriage are) the daughters of your paternal uncles, the daughters of your paternal aunts, the daughters of your maternal uncles and aunts who migrated with you. (Also included in this category are) any believing woman who has offered herself to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) wishes to marry her. (This is) a privilege (exclusively) for you (of marrying more than 4 wives) and not for the rest of the believers.  We know exactly what We have made obligatory to them concerning their wives and those whom their right hands hold in trust, hence you will not be at fault (if you act according to your privilege), for Allah  is the All Forgiving, Most Merciful.

33:51 (O' Prophet ﷺ) You can postpone (the turn for your company) whom you will, of them (your wives), and you may receive to you whom you will.  There is no blame on you if you desire any of those whom you have set aside (temporarily). It is better that their eyes may be cooled and they don’t grieve, and may be pleased with what you give all of them.   And Allah knows what is in your hearts. Allah is All Knowing, Most  Forbearing.

33:52 (O' Prophet  ﷺ) You are not permitted to take any further wives, nor to exchange the wives you have for others, even if these attract you with their beauty.  But this does not apply to the (captives) whom your right hand possesses.  Allah is watchful over all things.

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) had 9 wives at that time. After this commandment he did not marry anyone else.

There are differences of opinions among scholars in this context. Some say that the restriction was lifted from the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), but he chose not to marry anyone else.

33:53 O' believers! Do not enter the homes of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) without permission.  (And if invited) for a meal, do not (come too early and) linger until the meal is ready.  But if you are invited, then enter (on time). Once you have eaten, then go on your way, and do not stay for casual talk. Such behavior is truly annoying to the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), yet he is too shy to ask you to leave.  But Allah is never shy of the truth. And when you (believers) ask his wives for something, ask them from behind a barrier. This is purer for your hearts and theirs. And it is not right for you to annoy the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), nor ever marry his wives after him.  This would certainly be a major offense in the sight of Allah.

33:54 Whether you reveal anything or conceal, surely Allah has  knowledge of all things.

33:55 There is no blame on women if they appear (unveiled in their modest dress) in front of their fathers, their sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their familiar women and those whom their right hands possess (slaves).   O' Women, have fear of Allah,  for Allah is a witness to all things.

33:56 Allah and His angels send blessings (and salutations) on Prophet Mohammad : O’ believers Send your salutations and reverence on him, and salute him with all respects.

The above verse is a commandment of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) for recitation of Durood on Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). The more you recite, the bigger is the reward in both the worlds.

Durood (اللهم صلِّ على سيدنا محمد وعلى آله وصحبه أجمعين) is the remembrance of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) which is obligatory on all Muslims.

(ii) It is in Hadith - Abdullah bin Masud (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrates that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : 'On the day of Resurrection the person closest to me will be the one who has sent the most Durood on me.' (Tirmidhi)

(iii) It is in Hadith - Abdulla bin Amr bin Al-Aas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) reported : I heard the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) saying : 'Whoever supplicates Allah to exalt for me (recites Durood), Allah would exalt him ten times.' (Muslim)

(iv) It is in Hadith The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said : Before whomsoever my name is mentioned, he should recite durood upon me.' (Nasa'i)

33:57 Surely those who hurt Allah and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) (by their loose talk), are cursed by Allah in this world and in the hereafter. He has prepared for them a humiliating punishment.

33:58 Those who hurt believing men and women for what they have not done, will bear the guilt of slander and flagrant sin.

33:59 O Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), ask your wives, daughters, and believing women to draw their cloaks over their bodies. In this way it is more likely that they will be recognized (as virtuous) and not be harassed. And Allah is All Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) commands Muslim women to wear Cloak/veil so that they are recognized as virtuous women and not be harassed.

Different kinds of veils/cloaks are used by Muslim women in the world, as follows.

(i) Niqab - The niqab is a veil/cloak that covers the whole body but leaves the area around the eyes clear.

(ii) Burqa - Burka is the most concealing of all Islamic veils. It is a one-piece veil/cloak that covers the face and body, often leaving just a mesh screen to see through.

(iii) Al-Amira It is a two-piece veil/clock. It consists of a close fitting cap and a tube-like scarf.

(iv) Chador - The chador is a full-body cloak. It is often accompanied by a small headscarf underneath.

(v) Khimar - The khimar is a long, cape-like veil that hangs down to just above the waist. It covers the hair, neck and shoulders completely, and leaves the face clear.

(vi) Shayla - The shayla is a long, rectangular scarf which is wrapped around the head and tucked or pinned in place at the shoulders.

(vii) Hijab Hijab is a headscarf worn by Muslim women. These scarves come in many styles and colors. Most commonly worn scarf covers the head and neck and leaves the face clear.

The women wearing Khimar, Shyla or Hijab generally prefer to wear loose fitting cloths/cloak in such a way that they are recognized as virtuous.

33:60 If the hypocrites, those in whose hearts there is a disease (of evil desires), and those who spread false rumors among the people of Madinah, do not desist, We shall let you overpower them, then they will not be able to stay in the city as your neighbors but for a little while.

33:61 They will be rejected. Wherever they are found, they will be arrested and put to death.

33:62 That was Allah’s way with those (hypocrites) who have gone before.  And you will find no change in Allah’s way.

33:63 People ask you about the Hour (of Judgment). Say, 'Allah alone has Knowledge of It. You never know; the Hour may be near.'

33:64 The unbelievers have earned Allah's anger, and He has prepared a Blazing Fire for them.

33:65 They will abide therein forever. Neither will they find a protector nor a helper.

33:66 On the Day when their faces are turned over and over in the Fire, they will exclaim, 'woe to us! Would that we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Apostle

33:67 And they will say, 'Our Lord! We obeyed our leaders and elite, but they led us astray from the (right) path.

33:68 Our Lord! 'Give them double punishment and lay upon them a mighty curse.'

33:69 O believers! Be not like those who slandered Musa (عليه السلام), but Allah cleared him of what they said, for he was honorable in the sight of Allah.

33:70 O' Believers, be mindful of Allah, and say what is right.

33:71 That He will make your deeds good and upright and forgive your sins. Whoever obeys Allah and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) has surely attained a mighty triumph.

33:72 We had offered the Trust (of divine commandments) to the skies, the earth, the mountains, but they refrained from bearing the burden and were frightened of it; but man took it on himself. (Alas, many do not realize it.) They are inept and foolish.

The meaning of Trust (الْأَمَانَةَ) in the above verse is the crown of vicegerent (تاجِ خِلافت)

It is in Quran - وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةً [ And when Allah addressed the angels (saying) I am going to make a Vicegerent on Earth. ] (Al-Baqara -30)

It is in Quran - وَهُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَكُمْ خَلَائِفَ الْأَرْضِ وَرَفَعَ بَعْضَكُمْ فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ دَرَجَاتٍ لِّيَبْلُوَكُمْ فِي مَا آتَاكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ سَرِيعُ الْعِقَابِ وَإِنَّهُ لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ [ And He is Who has made you successors upon the Earth and has raised some of you above others in ranks that He will see you through what He has given you. Indeed, your Lord is swift in retribution; and He is (also) Forgiving and Merciful.] (Al-An'aam - 165)

It is the wisdom of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) that every single creation is appropriate in its place within their environment. When Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) informed the angels that He is going to create a vicegerent on Earth, it meant that His real Khalifa, Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) was to come from among human beings.

It is in Hadith - Umar bin al-Khattab (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated that the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said, when Prophet Adam (عليه السلام) said, O' my Lord, I ask you for the sake of Mohammad (بحق محمد صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) to forgive me. He (Allah - عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) said, How did you know Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم)? He said, because when you created me with Your hands and blew into me from Your spirit, I raised my head and I saw on the Arsh it was written [There is no god, but Allah, and Mohammad is the Apostle of Allah]. So I knew You would not put next to your name except the one who is the most beloved to You. 'He said, you have said the truth, O'Adam (عليه السلام) and if it were not for Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), I would not have created you.] (Al-Mustadrak al-Hakim, who said it is Sahih)

It is in Hadith Abu Hurairah (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrated, 'they asked, O'Allah's Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), when was prophet-hood established for you? He said, while Adam (عليه السلام) was between the soul and body' (Tirmidhi).

Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) wants humans to realize that they are His chosen creation, His servants, among whom His beloved Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) has appeared. It is a great distinction for human beings among Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) creations. Therefore, man needs to choose Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) obedience and should be grateful to Him. Those who do not realize it and deny Him, will be subjected to punishment.

33:73 (This is the reason why) Allah punishes the hypocrites, men and women, as well as the men and women who associate others (idols) with Him.  And why Allah turns mercifully towards the believing men and women, because He is Ever Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Saba

Saba | Sura # 34 | 54 verses | Makkan

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

34:1 All praise is for Allah, to Whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And praise be to Him in the Hereafter. He is the All Wise, All Aware.

34:2 He knows all that goes into the earth and all that comes out of it; and whatever descends from the sky and whatever ascends to it. And He is the Most Merciful, Most Forgiving.

34:3 Those who disbelieve say : 'The Hour (of Judgment) will not come to us.'  Say : 'Yes, by my Lord, it will surely come to you.  He knows all the unseen.  Not even the weight of an atom escapes from His knowledge in the heavens or in the earth; nor is there anything smaller or greater than that, but is recorded in the Manifest Book.'

34:4 He will reward those who believe and do righteous deeds. They are those for whom there is forgiveness and a generous provision.

34:5 But for those who strive against Our revelations, trying to undermine them, there will be a severe punishment of agonizing pain.

34:6 And those who have been given the knowledge,  can see that the revelations sent to you (O' Apostle  ﷺ) from your Lord are the truth, and that it (the Quran) guides to the Way of (Allah), the Exalted in Might, Owner of all praise.

34:7 The disbelievers say (mockingly to one another), 'Shall we show you a man who claims that when you have been utterly disintegrated (in the grave after death)  you will be raised (again) as a new creation?'

34:8 (And they say) Has he invented a lie about Allah or is he mad?'   Those who do not believe in the Hereafter are extremely misguided. They will receive (severe) punishment (in both the worlds).

34:9 Have they not seen all that surrounds them of the skies and the earth?  If We willed, We could cause the earth to swallow them up, or cause  pieces of the sky to fall upon them (as punishment). Surely in this is a sign for every servant who turns (to Allah).

34:10 Indeed, We bestowed grace on Dawood (عليه السلام) (saying) : 'O mountains! (echo in) Glorifying (Allah) with him!' The birds also! And We made the iron soft for him,

34:11 (instructing him) 'Make full-length armor, (perfectly) balancing the links.' And 'work (with) righteousness. Indeed, I see  what you (all) do.'

34:12 And [We subjected] the wind to Sulaiman (عليه السلام); its morning course (covered) a month's journey, and its evening course (covered) a month's journey. And We made a fountain of molten copper flow for him. And among the jinn were those who worked for him with his Lord's permission. And whoever of them deviated from Our command, We made them taste the torment of the blaze.

34:13 They made for him whatever he desired of,  sanctuaries, statues, basins as large as reservoirs, and cooking pots fixed (into the ground). (We ordered) : 'Work gratefully, O family of Dawood (عليه السلام)'  (But, Only)  a few of My servants are (truly) grateful.

34:14 When We decreed death for him (Sulaiman عليه السلام  was leaning on his stick), no one informed the jinns of his death until a little termite of the earth chew away his stick (gradually) and he fell down. The jinns realized that if they had the knowledge of the unknown they would never have suffered the demeaning labor.

34:15 Indeed, there was a sign for (the people of) Sheba in their homeland : two orchard, one to the right and the other to the left. (They were told) : 'Eat from the provision of your Lord, and be grateful to Him.   (Yours is) a good land and (your) Lord is forgiving.'

34:16 But they turned away (from Allah). So We sent against them a flood of Arim (released water from the dam), and We converted their two gardens into gardens producing bitter fruits, shrubs, and a few (sparse) thorny trees.

34:17 This is how We punished them because they were ungrateful (disbelievers). And We never punish except those who are ungrateful.

34:18 We had placed between them and the towns We had blessed other towns within sight of one another to which they could easily have traveled, 'Travel safely between them by night or day.'

34:19 But (they complained), 'Our Lord has made the distance between our staging posts so long.' (In so doing) they wronged themselves, so We made their fate a tale for all and scattered them in small groups throughout the land.  There are certainly signs in this for everyone patient and grateful.

34:20 Indeed, Satan's assumption about them has come true, so they (all) follow him, except a group of (true) believers.

34:21 Even though Satan had no authority over them, it all happened because We wanted to see who among them believed in the Hereafter and who is in doubt concerning it. Your Lord is watching over all things.

Sabaeans (the people of Saba) were a prosperous nation in Southern Arabian Peninsula. Their home was Yemen. During the times of Prophet Dawood and Sulaiman (عليهم السلام), they became famous as a wealthy nation. They were the worshipers of Sun. However, when their Queen Bilquis (عليها السلام) became Muslim during the times of Sulaiman (عليه السلام), most of them became Muslims.

A few decades later, evil practices started to appear in them again and they gradually reverted to idol worship. Their chief deity was 'Al-Maqah' (the moon god). Their kings claimed that they were the representatives of this deity.

Salafis/Wahhabis who are ruling Arabian Peninsula for over one hundred years (from 1900 till now), have built magnificent temple like Museums where they have preserved Idol gods worshiped by their ancestors Pagans, Sabaeans and others. They have named the Arabian Peninsula as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. There is a Saudi Ministry responsible for excavating, classifying, maintaining, revering and exhibiting the Idols worshiped by their ancestors. They claim this is the treasure of their national heritage. One of the Idol god preserved by them is the idol of Moon god of Sabaeans of Southern Arabia.

The Sabaeans owed their prosperity to two main factors, agriculture and trade. They had developed an efficient irrigation system. There were no natural rivers in their land, however in the rainy season small hill streams used to flow from the mountains. They collected the water from these streams and built lakes from which they took out canals to water their lands. This turned their land into a vast garden as has been mentioned in the above verses. The largest reservoir was a dam constructed below Jabal Balaq near Maarib.

For trade, Sabaeans had been blessed by Allah with the most favorable geographical location of which they took full advantage. For more than a thousand years they monopolized the means of trade around their country. Along this route, a number of Sabaean colonies were established right from Yemen to the borders of Syria, as mentioned in the above verses, and trade caravans passed by these routes day and night. The signs of many of these colonies still exist on these routes.

Sabaeans prospered and enjoyed life as long as Allah favored them with His bounties. When they transgressed all limits in their ingratitude, Allah withdrew His favors, and the great dam burst resulting in a huge flood that broke one dam after the other on its way, destroying the entire nation.

34:22 (O' Prophet  ﷺ), Tell the pagans : 'Call on those deities whom you pray besides Allah,  they do not have power over an atom’s weight of anything in the heavens or earth, nor have they any share in either, nor does He need any assistant from among them.

34:23 And intercession does not benefit with Him except for the one whom He permits. (And those wait) until, when terror is removed from their hearts, (and permission for intercession is granted) they will say (to one another), "What has your Lord said?" They will say, "The truth." And He is the Most High and Great.

34:24  (O' Prophet  ﷺ), ask them : 'Who provides your sustenance from the heavens and the earth?' (If they do not answer, then) say : 'It is Allah. Certainly one of us; either we or you are rightly guided or in manifest error.'

34:25  Say, 'You will not be asked about what we have done, and we will not be asked about what you do.' (Everyone will be responsible for their deeds)

34:26  Say, '(On the Day of Judgment) our Lord will bring us together. Then He will settle all matters between us,  fairly and equitably. He is the All Knowing Judge!'

34:27  Say, 'Show me those you have installed as His partners. No. (They are all idols created by you.)  He (alone) is Allah , the Exalted in Might, the Wise."

34:28  And We have sent you (O' Apostle ﷺ) as a bearer of glad tidings and a Warner for all mankind, but most of people do not know.

The above verse testifies that all Prophets and Apostles before Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) were sent for their specific nations. But, the advent of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) is for the people of the world as a whole, till the day of Resurrection.

34:29  And they ask, 'When will this threat (of punishment) come to pass, if what you say is true?'

34:30  Say, (O Prophet ﷺ), 'A Day has (already) been appointed for you, which you can neither delay nor advance by a  moment.'

34:31  Those who deny the truth say, 'We will never believe in this Quran or in what came before it.'   But if only you could see when the unjust are made to stand before their Lord (on the day of Resurrection), blaming each other; those who were considered weak will say to those who had been arrogant, 'Had it not been for you, we would have been believers.'

34:32  Those who had been arrogant will say to those who they deemed to be weak, 'Did we prevent you from following the right guidance after it had come to you? Rather, you (yourselves have) rejected that.'

34:33  Those who had been thought weak will say to those who had been arrogant, 'Rather, it was your scheming, night and day, ordering us to deny Allah and attribute equals to Him.'   But when they all see the punishment (that awaits them), they will not be able to express their remorse. We will put shackles around the necks of those who rejected the truth, and they will be repaid only for what they have done.

34:34  And whenever We have sent a Warner (Prophet) to a town, its wealthy people said : 'Surely we don’t believe in (the message) what you are sent with.'

34:35  Adding, 'we are far superior in wealth and children, and we will never be punished.'

34:36  Say (O' Apostle ﷺ), ‘My Lord gives in abundance to whoever He wills and sparingly to whoever He wills, though most people do not understand.

34:37  It is neither your wealth nor children that bring you closer to Us.  But those who believe and do good, it is they who will have multiple reward for what they did, and they will live in (elevated) mansions (in Paradise).

34:38 Whereas those who work against Our verses, seeking to undermine them, will be summoned for punishment.

34:39 Say (O Prophet ﷺ) : 'Surely my Lord gives abundantly to whom He wills and sparingly to whom He wills.   Whatever you spend in charity, He will pay you back.   He is the best of those who provide sustenance.

34:40 And on the day when He will gather them all together, and then ask the angels, 'Was it you that these (polytheists) used to worship?'

34:41 They (angels) will say : 'Glory be to You! You are our protector not them. Nay, but they used to worship the Jinns; most of them were believers in them.'

34:42 So today (the Day of Resurrection) none of you has power to profit or harm one another.  And We shall say to those who did wrong : 'Taste the punishment of the Fire which you denied.'

34:43 When our clear verses are recited to them, they say (to each other), 'This is only a man who wants to turn you away from what your ancestors worshiped.' They (also) say, 'This is only a lie that he has invented.'  When the Truth comes to them, they say, 'This is nothing but sorcery,'

34:44 (even) though We have not given them any Books to study nor sent any one (prophet) before you, to warn them.

34:45 Those (who were destroyed) before them,  denied as well.  And these (polytheists) have not attained even one-tenth of (of the prosperity) what We had given to their predecessors. Yet (when) they denied My Apostles, how severe was My response!

34:46 Tell them (O' Prophet ﷺ) : 'I urge you on one thing only,  that you stand up for Allah’s sake in pairs and individually, and then ponder (over my history as I was born and raised among you). Has there been any madness in your companion (Muhammad ﷺ)? He is only a Warner to you before a severe punishment.'

34:47 Say : 'The reward I ask,  is for yourselves (only). My reward is due from none but Allah; and He is witness over everything.'

34:48 Say, 'Surely my Lord hurls the truth (against falsehood). (He is) the Knower of all Unseen.'

34:49 Say, 'The truth has come, and falsehood will vanish, never to return.'

34:50 Say : 'If I am in error it is to my own loss; if I am on guidance,  it is so because of what my Lord reveals to me. He is All Hearing and All  Near.'

34:51 If only you could see when they will be horrified with no escape (on the day of Judgment)! And they will be seized from a nearby place.

34:52 They will (then) cry, 'We do (now) believe in it (all).' But how could they (possibly) attain faith from a place so far-off  (from the world),

34:53 while they had already rejected it before, guessing blindly from a place (equally) far-away (from the Hereafter)?

The above verses explain that the belief in Islam is related to this world. And, the real belief is, the belief in the Unseen, that has been disclosed by Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostles. On the day of Judgement, when everything will be evident to everyone, believing at that time will not be accepted.

34:54 And a barrier will be placed between them and what they desired (by turning to Allah in repentance at that time), as was done before with the people of their kind.   Surely, they were in grave doubt.

The Originator

Faatir | Sura # 35 | 45 verses | Makkan

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

35:1 All praise is for Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, Who has made angels with 2, 3 or 4 (pairs of) wings as Messengers. He adds to creation as He wills. Surely, Allah has power over all things.

35:2 There is none who can take away the favors He has bestowed on people; and there is none, apart from Him, to restore what He has withheld. He is the Almighty, All Wise.

35:3 (O' Mankind) Remember the Grace of Allah upon you! Is there any creator other than Allah who provides for you from the heaven and the earth? There is no one worthy of worship but He. So (reflect upon) what lies are you inventing?

35:4 And if they deny you (O' Apostle ﷺ, it is not new), surely Apostles were denied before you. And to Allah all matters return (for decision).

35:5 O' Mankind! Certainly the promise of Allah is true. Therefore let not the life of this world deceive you nor let the chief deceiver (Satan) deceive you about Allah.

35:6 Surely, Satan is an enemy to you, so take him as an enemy. He only invites his followers so that they may become (his co-inmates) in the blazing Fire.

35:7 Those who disbelieve will have severe punishment, while those who believe and act good will have forgiveness and great reward.

35:8 Are those,  whose evil deeds are made appealing to them so they consider these evil deeds as good  (like those who are rightly guided and feel good about their righteous deeds)? (It is) certainly Allah (Who) leaves astray whoever He wills, and guides whoever He wills.  So (O' Prophet ﷺ) do not grieve yourself to death over them.   Surely Allah is aware of what they do.

35:9 It is Allah who sends the winds, which lift the clouds, which We then drive to a dead land and thereby bring the earth to life after its death.   Such is the Resurrection.

Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is explaining how Resurrection takes place by giving the example of the dead land on which nothing can be grown. However, when the rain falls, it becomes alive again and everything starts growing on it all over again.

Resurrection of human beings is simpler than the above. When the trumpet will be blown the second time, what Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) will do is, He will say 'Be' (كُنْ), and all people will come into being instantly.

It is in Quran - إِنَّمَا أَمْرُهُ إِذَا أَرَادَ شَيْئًا أَن يَقُولَ لَهُ كُن فَيَكُونُ [ When Allah intends to create something, He commands 'Be', and instantly it comes into existence]. (Yaseen - 82)

All of them will be provided with new bodies as per the requirement of that day and they all will be gathered at one place to answer for their deeds.

Even when we die, we are transferred to 'the world after death'. We enter in that world with a new body as per the requirement of that world. Our physical body that was provided to us for our stay in this world is buried into earth. This body often gets decomposed and become part of dust.

I have written a book titled 'The Life after Death' providing detailed information in this context.

35:10 The one who covets (and strives for) honor and glory (should know that) the honor and might belong entirely to Allah. The worthy word of prayer ascends up to reach Him. The righteous deeds make it rise. As for those who plot evil, they will suffer a severe punishment. And the plotting of such (people˺) is doomed (to fail).

People get involved in all kinds of corruption and dishonesty to climb on the ladder of wealth and power in this world and feel proud about it. Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is saying that the honor and might belongs only to Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ). And if you want honor and success in this world and in Hereafter, the only way is to have right belief and do good deeds.

35:11 And (it is) Allah (Who) created you from dust, then (developed you) from a sperm-drop, then made you into pairs. No female ever conceives or delivers without His knowledge.  And no one’s life is made long or cut short but is (written) in a Record.  That is certainly easy for Allah.

35:12 The two bodies of water are not alike: one is fresh, palatable, and pleasant to drink and the other is salty and bitter. Yet from them both,  you eat tender food and extract ornaments to wear. And you see the ships sailing their way through both, so you may seek His bounty and be grateful (to Him).

35:13 He merges the night into the day and the day into the night,, and He has made the sun and the moon to serve you; each one follows its course for an appointed term. Such is Allah, your Lord; His is the kingdom; and those to whom you pray besides Him, do not even own a thread of a date-stone.

35:14 You pray to them, but they do not hear your call; and even if they heard you, they could not answer your prayer; and on the Day of Resurrection they will deny you having worshiped them. None can acquaint you (with the reality) as He, who is informed of everything (Allah).

35:15 O' Mankind! It is you who stand in need of Allah, while Allah  is (absolutely independent), Self-Sufficient and Praiseworthy.

35:16 If He willed, He could eliminate you and produce a new creation (in your place).

35:17 And that is not difficult for Allah (at all).

35:18 No bearer of burdens will bear the burdens of another. And if a sin-burdened person cries for help with his burden, none of it will be carried even by a close relative. You (O Prophet  ﷺ) can only warn those who stand in awe of their Lord without seeing Him and establish Salah. Whoever purifies themselves, they only do so for their own good.  And to Allah is the final return (of everyone).

35:19 The blind and the seeing are not alike,

35:20 nor are the depth of darkness and the light);

35:21 nor are the (chilly) shade and the (genial - gracious) heat of the sun,

35:22 nor are alike those that are living and those that are dead, Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) can make any, that He wills, to hear, but you (O’ Prophet - صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) cannot make those hear who are  in graves.

The above verse refers to Makkan pagans who are referred to 'as dead people' because they do not have the light of Iman in their hearts. It is important to note that the believers can hear during this life and in Hereafter because their faculties of hearing, talking, life, etc., remain intact in both the lives. The problem is with disbelievers who can neither hear the call to Iman in this world nor can they hear anything in the Hereafter as they are subjected to torment in their graves and beyond.

Wahhabis/Salafis/Deobandis/Kharijis and their like minded groups impose the above verse on Prophets/Sahabah and Awliya Allah and scare innocent Muslims from visiting their graves for barakah saying that they cannot hear you.

It is in Hadith - Abdullah bin Umar (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) considered the Khawarij (and their like minded groups, Salafis, Deobandis, Wahhabis etc.) the worst of Allah's creation, and said, 'Verily they take the verses that were revealed about unbelievers and use them against the believers. (Bukhari)

To know the meaning of the above verse, let us study 3 verses, immediately before this verse. We have provided below all 4 verses together.

It is in Quran –وَمَا يَسْتَوِي الْأَعْمَىٰ وَالْبَصِيرُ - وَلَا الظُّلُمَاتُ وَلَا النُّورُ - وَلَا الظِّلُّ وَلَا الْحَرُورُ - وَمَا يَسْتَوِي الْأَحْيَاءُ وَلَا الْأَمْوَاتُ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُسْمِعُ مَن يَشَاءُ ۖ وَمَا أَنتَ بِمُسْمِعٍ مَّن فِي الْقُبُورِ [ The blind and the seeing are not alike (verse 19). Nor are the depth of darkness and the light (verse 20). Nor are the (chilly) shade and the (genial - gracious) heat of the sun (verse 21). Nor are alike those that are living and those that are dead, Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) can make any, that He wills, to hear, but you (O’ Prophet ﷺ) cannot make those hear (accept Iman) who are in graves (verse 22) (Fater - 19-22)

Verse 19 - ‘The blind and the seeing are not alike’.

This has reference to Makkan polytheists. Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is referring them as blind because they do not have the light of Iman in their hearts.

Verse 20 - ‘The depth of darkness and light is not alike’.

This means, the disbelievers' hearts are buried in the depth of darkness, therefore they cannot be compared with Muslims whose hearts are enlightened with Iman in both the worlds.

Verse 21 - 'The chilly shade and gracious heat of the sun cannot be alike'.

Since, Makkan pagans hearts are buried in the depth of darkness, it is referred as 'chilly shade' which cannot benefit from the heat of the sun. Meaning, the polytheists of Makka are not benefited from the gracious heat of Iman that is emanating from Prophet Mohammad

Verse 22 has three parts.

Part (22.1) - ‘The living and dead are not alike’.

This means, the polytheists of Makka and Muslims are not the same. Muslims are referred as living beings because of their Iman. As Makkan pagans' hearts are buried in the depth of darkness because of their Idol worship, they are referred as 'dead people'.

Part (22.2) - 'Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) can make any that He wills to hear'.

Allah Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) says that He has the omnipotence (power) to make anyone hear - meaning, He can give Iman to anyone he wishes.

Part (22.3) - (O’ Prophet ﷺ) you cannot make those dead bodies listen that are in graves’.

This has reference to the life and death of disbelievers. They are dead bodies in this world and inmates of Hell in Hereafter. It is evident that the entire discussion is about Makkan Mushrikeen whose hearts are buried in the depth of darkness because of their Idol worship. The graves of Muslims are not dark. They are illuminated by the light of Iman.

(And they who reject Our verses ( and those who reject the real meanings and/or misinterpret them and draw wrong meanings/conclusions from them) are deaf and dumb, in utter darkness; whom Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) pleases He causes to err and whom He pleases He puts on the right path). (Al-An'aam - 39).

(ii) It is in Hadith - Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said: 'He who remembers his Lord and he who does not, are like the living and the dead (Muslim).

(iii) It is in Hadith - Abu Musa (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrates that the Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) said, “He who remembers his Lord and he who does not are like the living and the dead.'

(iv) It is in Hadith - Abu Musa (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrates that the Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) said, 'The house in which Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is remembered and the one in which Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is not remembered are like the living and the dead.']

35:23 You (O' Apostle  ﷺ) are not, but a Warner.

35:24 Certainly We have sent you (O' Apostle  ﷺ) with the Truth as a bearer of glad tidings and as a Warner, for there has not been a nation which has not had a Warner.

35:25 If they deny you, so did those before them (who denied their Apostles). Their Apostles came to them with clear proofs, divine Books, and enlightening Scriptures.

35:26 Then I seized the ones who denied the truth, and how (terrible) was My punishment.

35:27 Do you not see that Allah sends down rain from the sky with which We bring forth fruits of various colors? Similarly, in the mountains there are streaks of various shades of rocks, including white, red,  jet-black.

35:28 And likewise, men, beasts, and cattle have various colors. It is only those among His servants who have knowledge, fear Allah. Surely, Allah is Almighty, and Most Forgiving.

35:29 Surely those who recite the Book of Allah,  establish Salah, and do charity from what We have provided them, secretly and openly, expect for a recompense that will never fail.

35:30 He will give them their recompense in full and give them more out of His Grace.  Surely, He is Most Forgiving, and Appreciates (those who are grateful).

35:31 The Book We have revealed to you (O Prophet ﷺ) is the truth, confirming what came before it.   Surely Allah is  aware of His servants and Sees every thing.

35:32 Then We gave the book (the Quran) as an inheritance to those of Our servants (Muslims) whom We have chosen. Among them there are some who wrong their own selves, some of them follow a middle course, and some of them are foremost in good deeds by Allah's blessings. That is the great favor (indeed).

The above verse categorizes the Muslims in three groups, as follows.

(i) The people of Iman, but who commit wrong on their own selves (wrongdoers/sinners).

In the above category, the sin or wrongdoing is related to deeds that are not covered under the purview of Iman. Iman is an straight forward issue related with heart. There is no scope of deviation in it. It is because, a person who does not have correct faith (Sahih Iman), and acts according to his wrongful/deviant faith or self desires that come under the purview of apostasy / polytheism / hypocrisy / blasphemy, etc., then, as per Islamic fiqh, he is not treated as Muslim, even though he claims himself to be one. Wrongful beliefs of all deviant sects are covered in it.

(ii) Those who follow middle course. Meaning, they are people of Iman but are not outstanding in good deeds.

(iii) The people of Iman who are also foremost in good deeds. Surely, Awliya Allah are covered in this category.

In all the above categories, Iman is the foremost requirement. There is no compromise on Iman. Your salvation depends on Sahih Iman.

Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) says that the people of Sahih Iman, belonging to all the above categories of Muslims have been given the Quran as an inheritance. They are believers and will be treated as such on the day of Resurrection.

As far as believing sinners are concerned, it is for Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) to either forgive or punish them to the extent of their bad deeds. Eventually they will be allowed to enter Paradise by the mediation of Prophet Mohammad

It is in Quran - قُلْ يَا عِبَادِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا مِن رَّحْمَةِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ [ Say, 'O My servants who have transgressed against themselves (by sinning), do not despair of the Mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is All Forgiving, Most Merciful. ] (Az-Zumar - 53)

35:33 They will enter the gardens of Eden where they will be adorned with bracelets of gold and pearls and their garments will be silk therein.

35:34 And they will say, 'Praise be to Allah, Who has kept away from us all (causes of) sorrow. Our Lord is indeed All Forgiving, and appreciates those who are grateful.'

35:35 'He has settled us in the everlasting Home out of His favor, where no weariness or fatigue will touch us.'

35:36 But those who disbelieve, there will be fire of Hell for them. Neither it (fire) will be completed on them so that they die, nor shall its punishment be lightened for them. Thus We do pay back every disbeliever!

35:37 They will cry therein : 'Our Lord! Get us out, (from now) we shall do righteous deeds and shall not repeat that (evil deeds) which we used to do.' (It will be told) : 'Did We not give you lives long enough so that whoever would, could receive warning therein? And the Warner came to you. So taste (the punishment for the evil you did), there is no helper for the wrongdoers.'

35:38 Allah knows all the unseen of the heavens and earth; He (also) knows what is in the hearts.

35:39 It is He Who has made you vicegerent on the earth.  (Disregarding this high favor of Allah) Whoever disbelieves, bears the burden of his disbelief; and for the disbelievers their disbelief does not increase anything except the wrath of their Lord.  The disbelievers do not gain anything except that their denial will only contribute to their loss.

35:40 Ask them (O Prophet  ﷺ) : 'Have you ever considered about your associate gods,  to whom you call upon besides Allah? Show me anything that they have created on earth!  Or what is their share in the creation of the heavens? Or have We given them (the disbelievers) a Book from which they derive the provision for shirk? Nay, in fact the wrongdoers promise each other nothing but delusions.

35:41 Allah keeps a firm hold on the heavens and earth, preventing them from vanishing away.   And if they vanished no one could then keep hold of them.   Certainly He is Most Forbearing, All Forgiving.

35:42 And (before the advent of Prophet Mohammad  ﷺ) they swore by Allah their most binding oath that if a Warner ever comes to them, they would be more guided than any of the nations (before them).   (But) when the Warner (the Prophet ﷺ) did come to them, they turned further away,

35:43 behaving arrogantly in the land and plotting evil.  But evil plotting only backfires on those who plot.  Are they awaiting anything but the fate of those (destroyed) before? You will find no change in the way of Allah, nor will you find it altered (for some people).

35:44 Have they not traveled through the land to see what was the end of those (who were destroyed) before them? They were far superior in might. But there is nothing that can escape Allah in the heavens or on the earth. He is certainly All Knowing, Most Powerful.

35:45 If Allah were to punish people (instantly) for what they have committed, He would not have left a single living being on earth.  But He delays them for an appointed term.  And when their time arrives, they surely will realize that Allah is All Seer of His servants.

Yaseen

Yaseen | Sura # 36 | 83 verses | Makkan

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

يس١

36:1 Yaseen

'Yaseen' is known as ‘Solemn Verse' (Ayat-e-Muqatta'at - آیتِ مقطعات).

Fourteen Arabic alphabets have been used, in varied combinations, in 14 ‘Solemn Verses' (Ayaat-e-Muqatta'at - آیاتِ مقطعات) in the form of initials of 29 Chapters (سورة) of holy Quran. Yaseen ( يس ) is one of them.

Since Quran is 'Mubeen' (الْمُبِينِ); its description is clear and manifest. The meanings of all the verses of Quran, including 'Solemn Verses' (آیاتِ مقطعات) are surely known to its principle addressee, ie., Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم). It is also likely that Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) has informed the meanings of these Verses to some of his Sahabah and Awliya Allah.

We believe in whatever is meant by the 'Solemn Verses' (آیاتِ مقطعات) by Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم).

Since we have been commanded to read the Quran carefully and try to understand the significance of every verse of the Quran, we do ponder over these verses. And when we think, by focusing our attention towards Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) for guidance, it comes to our mind that the 'Solemn Verses' (آیاتِ مقطعات) are actually the 'Solemn Titles of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) given by Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) throughout the Quran. Our understanding is based on the fact that Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) has addressed Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) in the Quran by specific names, like Muzzammil (مزمل - O' beloved who covers self in a coverlet), Muddassir (مدثر - O' beloved, who covers self in a bed sheet). With this understanding, it is most likely that Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) other names / titles have been mentioned in Quran by denoting certain initials/alphabets.

36:2 By the Wise Quran.

36:3 Truly, (O' Mohammad  ﷺ) you are one of the Apostles (of Allah),

36:4 upon the straight path.

36:5 (And this is) a revelation from the Almighty, Most Merciful,

36:6 to warn the people whose forefathers were not warned, so they are heedless.

36:7 In fact, the Word has been proven true against most of them who are arrogant; so they do not believe.

36:8 We have put shackles round their necks, reaching to their chins, so that their heads are forced up,

36:9 and We have put a barrier in front of them, and a barrier behind them, and then We have covered them up so they cannot see.

36:10 And (therefore) it is all the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them, they won't believe.

36:11 You can only warn those who follow the Reminder (the Quran) and are in awe of the Most Compassionate (Lord) without seeing Him.  So give them good news of forgiveness and an honorable reward.

36:12 Surely We shall resurrect the dead, We are recording all that they are sending ahead and that they are leaving behind. We have taken record of all things in a book (of evidence).

36:13 And give them the example of the people whose town was visited by the Apostles.

36:14 When We first sent them two (Apostles),  they denied them, We reinforced them with a third, and they said : 'Surely we are Apostles sent to you (with Allah's Message).'

36:15 But the people replied : 'You are but humans like us. The Compassionate (Lord) has revealed nothing; you are surely lying.'

36:16 The Apostles responded, 'Our Lord knows that we have truly been sent to you,'

36:17 and our responsibility is to convey the message clearly.'

36:18 The people replied, 'We definitely see you as a bad omen for us. If you do not desist, we will certainly stone you (to death) and you will receive  a painful punishment from us.'

36:19 The Apostles said, 'Your bad omen lies within yourselves. Are you saying this because you are reminded  (of the truth)?  In fact, you are a transgressing people.'

36:20 And there came a man running from the farthest part of the town and said : 'O my people,  follow the Apostles.'

36:21 Follow those who do not ask you for (any) payment; they are (rightly) guided.
